Personally, I think we need it to be a shooter. That's just where the game is going.
Not a question of where the game is going-- we'd be a poor outside shooting team in 1990.

We've basically got no shooters at all. Only 1 or 2 people who our very bright drafters even thought would be shooters, and none at all performing like one.

In 3 games we are now dead last in the NBA in 3pters per game, and 2nd to last in three pointers attempted per game (ironically, and perhaps unfortunately for the Kevin Martin plan, Minnesota is last and may not want to give up the one shooter they have).

I predict Stauskas will heat up...THIS year. Hes going to give us a lift I tell ya.

Not a complete enough player. Also, too old.
You take him in a second. In a second.

Look, our kids are irrelevant. Why? They are kids. We are no longer a kid's team. Our franchise player is our next youngest piece with a future here, and he's in his 5th year. All our important pieces are at least as far in. Gay is in his 8th year? Collison his 6th. Jason his 7th I think, . Evans. Landry. Sessions. Casspi. We are not an old team, but we are a veteran team. We're not going to hold up winning so a couple of kids 5 years behind everybody else can figure it out.

We are forming up a tough veteran team with enough star power to compete. You get a chance to add a vet SG to complete that picture you do it, and you start seriously trying to angle for a playoff berth. And it will probably cost you one of the kids, and that's fine. The chances are almost 0% they are both here in a few years anyway. Now Korver is old, and hence not ideal. But he would absolutely kick this thing another half notch. And another half notch for us is being a dangerous team with legit playoff aspirations.

I haven't given up on the kid either.

On the other hand I'm not willing to do the stupid Sacramento wait forever on the kid thing and pee away a season either. If you get a chance to patch that hole, you patch it, and Stauskas can prove he's heating up on the bench and in practice.

This felt like a Kings win early on. The defense has been solid in all three games. The only thing that's broken it down has been bad turnovers on offense. Sessions needs to get it together on that.

It's good to see that Malone has quickly favored Casspi over DWill.

Also, DeAndre Jordan isn't the Clips third man. It's really Jamal Crawford and if Crawford was playing then I doubt the Kings end up winning. He wasn't and the Kings took advantage. DJ just puts up numbers against empty lanes.

i'd be worried about throwing Stauskas into the fire and asking him to guard NBA starting SG's every night. But other than that i think if he can at least hit the open 3s that Boogie/Rudy create, he would be a more valuable starter than Ben

Over at SB Nation-Clippers, the following comment was more than interesting as to Clips game attitude:

"Griffin's shot was off all game as he finished with only 17 points, going a putrid 6-20 from the field. Griffin also seemed to be taken out of the game from the lack of calls from the officials, an aspect of his game that was supposed to be alleviated by Doc's arrival."

That plainly pis.....d me off!!!
It doesn't p*** me off. It makes me laugh. Blake Griffin is as tough as milquetoast. A lack of calls from officials? Bullcrap. That was arguably one of the best refereed games I've seen in a long time. Clipper fan is just crying because they didn't get star-treatment, home court calls. They'd better get used to it. The better DMC gets, the more guys like Blake Griffin are going to be exposed as pretenders.

Griffin's poor showing was by our coaches design. All that talk about Griffin having added a jumpshot was false from the beginning. His shot has the arc of a laser beam and his free throws lok like Houston Rockets era Chuck Hayes. I may get banned for saying this but Blake Griffin is way overrated. 3rd in MVP voting? I lost alot of respect for the MVP voting process.
As someone with the ability to ban, I am totally and completely flummoxed. Why would you get banned for saying that Blake Griffin is over-rated? It's not like you tried to convince us water is wet or anything. :p

We are currently 6th in points allowed in the entire league, we are the second best rebounding team in the league, have the highest rebound differential in the entire league and are also 5th with FT %. We are also 7th in the league with opponent FG %, 10th in opposing team 3 point FG % and 11th in steals. That's the good.

The bad: We are still dead last in APG as a team and rank close to the bottom in the entire league in blocks and rank near the top with turnovers. Those things we are familiar with at this point. However, the key difference are the team defensive stats listed above. Granted it's only 3 games, but the results are encouraging.

I knew there would be the 'OH MY GOD DC SAVED US FROM PG DEFENSIVE SUCKY PERSON IT", but what we've seen is far more than just an improvement in PG defense.

It's been a team starting to buy into a system and work as 5 guys on the court. They're actually PLAYING with each other on the defensive side of the ball and working as a unit. Working as a unit and buying into rotations and understanding defensive rotations far outplays defensive talent on team, although that helps tremendously. DC has helped certainly and been an upgrade defensively over IT, but our early success is much deeper than that.

I know we all want to just move on and stop mentioning the player who is no longer on this team, but it is certainly worth noting that the whole team defense benefits when the opposing PG is not blowing by a guy like IT on every single play and breaking down the defense. Collison keeping the opposing PG at bay has been HUGE for us in these first 3 games. Especially considering it was Curry, Lillard, and CP3

And I knew one of you would jump in and over-state the whole scenario. We don't disagree on what we've seen. What we will never agree upon is not worth further discussion, but I will say one thing: The PG sets the tone. The tone tonight was Beethoven. That's more than good enough for me.

How about this: Players in the locker room discussing what they could have done better defensively after a win. Kings buying in?
Wow what in the hell is going on? haha I'm seriously think that if we had a shot blocker and a SG that could shoot we would be a obvious playoff lock instead of a surprise underdog.

My deepest apologies go out to Darren Collison/Rudy Gay and Omri Casspi who I bagged during the off season

With that out of the way I may begin

#I know everyone is going to talk about Cuz/Gay but the MVP very well might have been JT his defense 2night was spectacular the best I have ever seen him defend, dude was a absoulte rock 2night GO JT!
#Collison HUGE down the streched, matched CP3 for every quarter but the 3rd (which is still a win for us) nickname should be Marvel cause DC was a superhero these first 3 games
#DMC: big fella don't be so mean, loved his 2nd half monstering everything in the paint
#Gay: took a couple tough shots but was spectacular, was even looking to make passes which he didn't all preseason, just had his way with fake tough guy Barnes
#Casspi start him @SG really that simple he's got qualities where he does little things everytime he touches it sort of like a really poor man's Manu, but when he came into the game his D and energy were terrific, nifty passing, unselfish Euro Ball.
#Mclemore might need the T-Rob treatment tbh
#Landry has become 4th quarter defensive specialist somehow someway. We need more from him
#Sessions: I have never seen a worst 3 games in my life, wtf happened to him?

Because nothing helps a team's defensive consistency like starting a 6'9" 3/4 combo guy at the two.

I said it during a preseason game. Casspi=poor man's, small forward version of Boris Diaw.

Is there any realistic solid SG's out there available in a trade?
I don't think many teams are putting guys out on the trade block this early in the season as teams are still waiting to see what they have and what direction their season will take. Well, except Hinkie. I think he's pretty much willing to trade anything not bolted down if it helps with project Tankalot. Too bad the Sixers don't have any SGs worth calling about.

Of course, Terrence Williams is still unsigned. Doesn't help our shooting but gives us another multifaceted guy. Short of dealing for a guy like Kevin Martin (who wouldn't help with our new found defensive intensity at all) the best case scenario is really just Ben and/or Nik finding their stroke and starting to hit open shots consistently.

Actually that's less of a concern right now. Look at the block totals. We had more blocks today in the first half than we've had in an entire week before. That is progress. :)

Is Kevin Martin available? He would just fit in so perfectly for us right now. It's clear or weakness is SG. JT has been doing what we need from the PF position sans shot blocking. If we could just get a competent NBA SG that can hit an open jumper, play team ball, play solid defense, we could be onto something. McLemore has been competent on defense but he can't hit an open jumper.

This game (just watched it cos it was at 4.30 in the morning here) had me really excited! The second unit remains a concern with Landry no longer being a reliable offensive threat and Sessions trying his best to be out of a job. As many have mentioned, we need a third scorer in order to have more offensive balance between our starting and bench units.

Super stoked that we just beat 2 playoff teams! Defense has been outstanding!
