Why Isn't Sasha Playing?

lets hope that will see him play something cause team needs what he is capable of ...
and i hope we will not just change from injured to coach decision ...
With Lyles out for at least two weeks, it looks very possible that Vezenkov will start getting minutes as soon as he is able. They do not want him to reinjure that ankle, though, so there may be a minutes restriction. With Huerter out, as well, they need both shooting and rebounding--and Vezenkov is a good offensive rebounder.

Another positive thing with him is that he has played a lot of play off and elimination games so far in his career and he must know how to cope the pressure of such games …
But let’s see what future will bring ….

This is exactly the opportunity he's needed to break into the rotation with Huerter and Lyles out. Keon seized his shot, Duarte is playing well, can Sasha step up too?
That is 3 way questio :)
Yes he can , if we speak about abilities
Who knows when we speak about the leg
And most probably no when we speak about Coach Brown's opinion :D

That's not being fair to Brown. I get that you are here because of Sasha but Brown is here because he wants to win.
that isn’t completely right mate …
Yes started to follow Kings for Vezenkov but kind of become fan of the team
The fact I have missed one and a half games so far in the season speaks enough , right ?
What I wrote above was supposed to be a joke by the way , but if we are going to look objective Brown isn’t flawless at all this season …
At the end we will measure him after the season is over , if he brings US one more step up compare the last season there will be no hard feelings , right ?

However we fans want to slice it, the reality is that this is likely Sasha's best chance to earn a spot in the rotation this season.

Unless Brown wants to consistently run out a 2nd unit of Len and 4 guards, Vezenkov is essentially only competing with Edwards for backup minutes behind Barnes and/or Keegan.

If Sasha were to take advantage and play well (assuming he's cleared to and stays healthy) then it gives Brown a nice problem to have when the playoffs come around and ideally the whole roster is available.

By the way in a 4 way conversation :
Vezenkov to a friend - to his friend (who is mine) - me
I have the information that he was 100% fit and able to take part in the game versus Wizards
So for me at least is complete misery way was ruled out before the game
I hope it’s not connected with new ankle issues

Sasha is now graded as "questionable" for tomorrow night's game against Orlando. Here's hoping he can play. It sure sounds like the training staff is being extra careful this time around & not rushing things.

There was an interview today in Eurohoops Greece of Sasha. Quite long, 45' but most of it wasn't about the NBA. There wasn't something really significant or something that could make a headline, so here are some points, won't mention the irrelevant ones with NBA.

He is living in West Sacramento, in a peaceful place that looks like a countryside village, too many trees, little lakes rivers, mostly the habitants there are families, it's quite safe, not so many distractions and he can fully focus on basketball.
The time difference makes it harder for him to communicate with his friends/girlfriend/family back in Europe, since when he is not in morning practice and coming back home to rest usually it gets late and people already go to sleep back home. But ok there are times that the training is later, or day off and he can talk to them for long or watch basketball matches from Euroleague in the morning while drinking his coffee.
The facilities are amazing (compared with Europe) the coaching staff is very big, many coaches, assistants, physicians, equipment guys etc, there is almost one member of the coaching staff per player. The offense/defense coach gives instructions during the game, almost all the subs are predetermined before the match, Fox will be subbed out first in the 6 minute mark, Sabonis last, always one of them plays with the others in 2nd unit, unless foul trouble or injuries occur, everything goes as planned before game.
The mentality is different, the coaches look more relaxed even when the team loses a 10-15 point lead, unlike Europe that they are fuming for anger and cursing, shouting etc. Wasn't mentioned in the interview but Sasha's former Greek coach gets viral every time with his reactions during timeouts when things are not going well, in Greece instead of "god damn it" we say "f*ck Christ/Holy Mary" long story how to explain it properly. In Europe it's more like "every possession matters", this doesn't happen in NBA where they are more tolerant since the number of matches is bigger so a defeat is not "the end of the world" (unlike of what we think here in the forum hehe).
No matter your age or your previous accomplishments in Europe (talking about him and Micic for instance) in NBA you are considered a rookie and have to prove yourself there in order to get a significant role.
Moving to the NBA was one of the hardest decision he had to make in his life, had to isolate himself for 2-3 days in order to decide to make that step since he had a nice bond with Olympiacos team, fans etc after helping them getting several titles (in Greece, Euroleague etc) but like many people that play in Europe lately he sees it as a challenge and he owes it to himself to prove he is capable of playing in the NBA. Also he appreciates the effort from Kings front office and Mike Brown in order to persuade him to make this big step, so he wants to give 100% in every chance he gets to play to prove them right.

There was no question about the fans, the journalist wanted to know more his opinion about past moments in Greece, about other players in Europe, Giannis, who he thinks will win the Euroleague and other non NBA related things.

Interesting. Thanks for sharing. Quite inciteful.

Another interview for a Spanish newspaper/site this time. Not on video like the one he gave in the Greek media, so everybody can use "google translate".
Again though nothing special mentioned. The Greek media use the headline "I feel undervalued in the NBA" based on that interview, but he didn't say that exactly like that.
The journalist mentions that after the game at Toronto Mike Brown was asked if Vezenkov will be back in the rotation once he becomes healthy so he said:“We are playing very well right now, I am simply not going to remove one boy to put another in,” he points out to a question from MD Brown, always sincere and direct, about what the former Barça player has to do to play more. “He's going to have to work hard on both sides of the court and, when he gets an opportunity, take advantage of it like Keon Ellis did back in the day. Every time we put him on, he worked hard and now he is a starter,”

that sounds a bit like : Sasha sits with a thumb in his ass and doesn’t work hard enough ….
but lets hope the meaning is lost somewhere in the many translations cause otherwise it don’t sound good at all ….
For him at least

Also it took Keon 60+ games to become a "guaranteed" part of the rotation, and if Huerter wasn't injured he would still not play that much.

The Keon-Sasha-Kessler (+maybe Colby) management certainly seems to be a frustration to fans. Of course, we are neither privy to practice nor the coaches' strategy sessions.

It looks Brown has no confidence in Sasha, as he's been listed day to day more than a week ago. Now this time around when the playoff race is so tight he looks even more reluctant to sub him and everyone's defense is a notch up. Perhaps he might see the floor tonight when everyone gets a cold hand and we have no chance of recovering from a blowout.

Or, hear me out, his ankle injury was really bad and not something we want him to rush back from.

I'm thinking the day to day status might connected to the pretty severe ankle injury he sustained. Just a guess though.
