To tank or not to tank (split from game thread)

And what reason is there to believe that losing gives the Kings an advantage? They don't have control over what the other teams do: losing only gives them an "advantage" if the other teams that they're vying for a high lottery pick against are winning at a proportional rate.

Yes indeed but winning guarantees we get worse draft picks as if the predicting game is 100%. All we can control is us and at times I have doubts we can do that.

The Kings don't have to deliberately tank. This is a legit 10 win team. Not sure how they can conceivably be even worse than they already are other than given Papa more minutes.

I don't call it tanking. They're already bad so might as well just develop the young players so you can do the opposite of tanking in the next couple years. Otherwise you're just going to get tanking results while trying not to tank.

Tank you for listening.

Unintentional tanking - play the kids, play to win. This is why we should have traded any vets with short contracts who want to play and aren't just here for lockerroom/mentoring purposes at the deadline.
Exactly. If we play the young guys I want to win because of what it will do for their confidence. But if we are giving guys like Collison, Koufos, and Tolliver 30 minutes then what's the point? I don't see how those guys getting reps helps our future at all.

if we don't get 2 top 10 picks we definatley traded Cuz for nothing. if we fall inside top 10 and so does NO we have them. that would be essentially 3 top 10 picks for cuz and it feels better for a moment. IF we had Cuz would have lost our pick. So in essence the trade actually nets us another top 10 pick that isn't in the trade details

It's interesting and oh, so human, that people say that we traded Cuz for Buddy or something similar. Nah! We traded Cuz and Omri for Buddy, a sg whose name I refuse to learn, Tyreke, a first rounder and a second rounder. The autopsy on this deal will not be clear for several years.

As a side track, does anyone but me think Vlade may have had the idea lurking in the back of his mind when he arrived on the scene that Boogies needed to be traded? I think he had a couple years to gauge Boogie and his potential to avoid outbursts. Was Boogie improving? What I saw this year of Boogie was a guy who appeared more calm but for some reason wanted to set some record on techs. He also is always on the edge with his pushing and shoving. Is he in pursuit of martyrdom? Dang!

We should be trying to tank. But the fact we failed to ship out vets (Tyreke/DC/Koufus/Afflalo) for youth/picks, indicates to me Vlade is trying to win while reloading.

It probably means no one wanted our vets. Or maybe there is still the mandate of making the playoffs. Or both.

Like others have said, we dont have to try to tank. As long as the players who we intend to be here for the foreseeable future are growing and learning from the coaching staff, then we are doing what is best for the remainder of the season.

I would much rather have a high draft pick than to make the 8th seed in a down year out west. The current 8th place team has lost 6 more games than it has won for the season. Pathetic. Develop the young guys and continue to implement our system while still trying to win. Considering our lack of experience and talent the losing will take care of itself. Gotta see what we have in Hield of dreams, Papa, Skal etc.

I like your phrasing. :) All except "Hield of dreams"... ;)

Now that DMC is gone, there is absolutely no reason to try and win and make the playoffs. They would get swept by the Warriors!!!

If Coach Joeger is as smart as I think he is, he really needs to stop trying to win games and play the Kids almost exclusively now!!!

The best thing for Coach's career would be to have two top 10 picks in this year's draft to build upon in the coming years!!! ;)

I strongly advocate tanking. Its all about short term satisfaction versus long run gain. Wining now shoots yourself in the foot for the long run. Sure there is no "gaurantees" what pick number we get or how that playervwill pan out. However, hard to argue that finishing as low in the standings doesnt increase our ODDS of getting the player we want and brightening the future outlook of this team.

Sit the vets, play the youth.
