Chris Duarte to Kings

I can really get behind this depending on what we're sending out.

Edwards, Duarte, Keeegs, even Davion, plenty of young players with room to improve.

Edwards, Ellis, Duarte, Jones, and Slawson are all in the 6'5 - 6'7 range. Is Monte opting for quantity over quality, hoping that somebody sticks, or is he gearing up for a trade?

I wish I was a super old 26 year old...
Well I mean its something that gets talked about ad naseum with him and if you look at the ages of players selected in the lottery hes a bigtime outlier with like Dikembe Moutoumbo and perhaps a few of the guys who lied about their ages... But really the story of how Duarte got delayed due to injuries in college doesnt get brought up nearly as much.. He's also a JUCO guy so that usually delays players about another year, cuz they gotta prove themselves multiple times.

And if your being objective here as Kings fans, we should be FAR more concerned with his injury history than his age..

I actually thought he was on track to get drafted in 2020 (as more of a top of the 2nd rd type) in the same year with Peyton Pritchard, but then he broke his finger( oregon collapsed shortly thereafter) then he had surgery n returned for his final season and ends up, somehow, in the '21 lottery.

He's missed significant chunks of his first 2 NBA seasons now too. Just google his name and 'injury' and you'll see all sorts of body parts n dates come up.

But really we have excellent depth here, we dont need him to be a starter or anything he's a possible rotation guy, still something worth monitoring though. The headline here is he played great with Sabonis n they are re-united, and hes a solid defender, whos particularly menacing in the passing lanes, so if everything goes according to plan he's gonna start a lot of fast breaks for us which could be particulary crushing for opponents if our bench can make that happen, Trey Lyles was sneaky good for us defending the passing lanes for us last year so I wonder if the 2 of them can combine their powers n really cause constant disruption.

Might be Monte trying to operate as an over the cap team to have the MLE avaiable?

With HB new contract
The 4M added after aquiring Duarte

Could we renegociate now Sabonis contract with the rest of the TPE of the Holmes trade, extend Lyles and go to the FA market as an over the cap team?

possibly, right now we have about 14mm in space after the Duarte trade is finalized. which includes the cap holds for roster spots, lyles and Queta/Ellis

This is all good context to have on Duarte, but I think TaxMan was just making a joke that only in something like professional sports can 26 ever be considered "old".

No, I think the goal is to have just over the MLE still available to try and outbid teams that only have the exception. But my math could be off here.

This is a bit puzzling.....the new 2nd rounders are getting even more competition for suit-up. There's enough players vying for 10-13 already. What is the future draft compensation? two 2nds? I guess someone sees something like of him - probably Brown. Well ok then......

I wouldn't mind the Pacers signing Brown to both weaken the Nuggets and keep him from the Lakers.
I'd like to throw our money at Brown and looks like we just took ourselves out of that but him going to an Eastern team we'll only see twice a year or in the finals ain't bad at all.

I'm not sure why he'd sign in Indy though, they are still a few years away from beings a few years away.

I know he was originally drafted as a shooter, but how’s his defense?
This is dated footage but check this game out when he almost had a triple double with steals

While Davion was considered to be the best on-ball defender in the '21 draft, and obvious Mobley the best shotblocker, there was a very strong case to be made that Duarte was the best defender at jumping the passing lanes

for the brief stints I watched him play in Indiana as a rookie, he liked to put up lots of shots. He won't have that green light here and I question where or whether he will play at all here with all the guards in front of him.

I was just coming on to ask this question..... Assuming Duarte replaces Terrance Davis, are we getting a better defensive/heady player than Davis? Davis can make plays, but often out of control and a rollercoaster (both offensively and defensively).

kind of Underwhelming highlights. Does anticipate well though.

As currently constructed (which will likely change), I see him competing with Kessler for the 10th rotation spot, which is probably a 8-12 minute spot in the rotation, when he plays. Often rotations only go 9 deep, so the 10th guy plays some nights and not others. TD and Kessler both held this role last year. You are probably looking at something like

Fox 34/Davion 14
Huerter 20/Monk 28
Barnes 28/Huerter 8/Duarte or Kessler or Jones 12
Keegan 32/Sasha 16
Domas 34/Lyles 14

Fox and Domas 34
Keegan 32
Huerter, Barnes, Monk 28
Sasha 16
Davion and Lyles 14
Kessler or Duarte or Jones 12

That last spot (the tenth spot) is the first place that gets cut if you want to tighten the rotation or give others in the rotation more minutes.

Yeah, Looking just at stats, Duerte looks like a steadier player at this point.... I like Davis potential still.
