Seems like Dave Joerger made it the old fashioned way. He worked for it. The below info is from his Wiki:

Excerpt:

"David Joerger (/ˈjeɪɡər/ [YAY-ger])[1] (born February 21, 1974) is an American professional basketball coach who is the former head coach of the Memphis Grizzlies of the National Basketball Association (NBA). He was the head coach of the Dakota Wizards from 2000–2004 and 2006–2007 in the International Basketball Association, Continental Basketball Association, and the NBA Development League, winning championships in 2001, 2002, 2004, and 2007. He also coached the Sioux Falls Skyforce from 2004–2006, winning a championship in 2005."

Well that escalated quickly. A young defensive coach strongly linked to the Kings.

It was weird that we were not linked to Vogel but this might explain why.

I would be very happy with this hire if we can pull it off. Hell there are so many good coaches available it would be hard to **** it up at this point!

Via Stein:
There's significant momentum on Joerger-to-the-Kings, league sources tell @TheVertical. Sacramento has opportunity to get a deal done.

What the...

I think we all tend to forget that the Grizzlies have their own crazy Silicon Valley tech guy mucking about their team. (Once tried to get Joerger to wear a headset during games almost fired him five games into his tenure when he refused)

Why does Memphis get rid of good quality coaches? It's mind boggling!
Perhaps they feel this is as good a time as any to move away from their existing style of play and rebuild/retool?

Let's be honest, their window shut in his second year, and they missed their best chance at a championship in Hollins' last season. In their current state they are unlikely to improve. To get better they might need to change their approach and move on from certain players, and based on his coaching style and philosophy to date, Joerger is probably not the guy to do it - like Vogel in Indy.

lmao a headset? SO the owner could talk to him or what? That's hilarious.

Sobering thought- we can only pick one.

Reading Sam Amick and his article on USA, there were bread crumbs on Monday when it was revealed that Turner was being considerd for the Associate Head Coach job.......me thinks Vlade has had a plan in place. This is the guy. More experienced version of Malone and we get Elston Turner too. Would be awesome if they had incredible relationship with Mike Conley.

I'm guessing Vogel had no interest in the Kings job. I'd wager that the Knicks are at the top of his list. Memphis seems to want him too, but I think with an aging roster and Conley potentially leaving they aren't a desirable opportunity either.

Sobering thought- we can only pick one.
If that one is Joerger I'm fully on board.

Of course Joerger would like to coach a younger Zach Randolph.
You mean he's not coming to sactown?

(If you meant that DMC is that younger Z-Bo, I seriously beg to differ!! An almost utter different skill-set. Boogie is a much better & more complete player. Wait... were you thinking about Acy?)

Interestingly enough, the Grizzlies' current GM, Chris Wallace, asked for and received permission to interview for the Kings recent front-office vacancy that eventually went to Ken Catanella.

Now he's saying this:

"The decision was made because I believe you need a deeply committed leadership team in order to establish the strong culture needed for sustainable long-term success," general manager Chris Wallace said in a Q&A on the team's website. "I don't want to get into specifics, but our goal now is to identify the best candidate for our organization."

Wallace said he made the final decision to fire Joerger. He commended the coach's in-game management but said, "being an NBA head coach is about more than just coaching a 48-minute game."

Sources close to the situation confirmed to ESPN that a divide between Joerger and the Grizzlies' front office had been growing for some time.

Grizzlies management believed Joerger was not fully invested in coaching in Memphis and had been getting indications of that all season, sources said. The Grizzlies were also frustrated by Joerger's veiled swipes at the front office in the media.

Joerger, on the other hand, felt that he did not have management's full support, according to sources, a sentiment he believes began when he interviewed for the Minnesota Timberwolves' head-coaching job two years ago.

Aaron Bruski @aaronbruski

Im told not to expect anything in the very near future re: Kings/Joerger. There appears to have been a tapping of the brakes.

I never ever expected Joerger to be available and I would really be exited if the Kings manage to hire him.
Thing is that Joerger is not a defensive minded coach with no idea how to play on the offensive end. When he took over for Hollins he slowly changed the Grizzlies on offense - he taught his players how to space the floor better, he gave Conley a bigger role, he revived Lee's career and when injuries struck this season he implemented a fairly successful small ball system and managed to sneak into the playoffs.
He is young, he is emotionally involved, he is able to handle difficult charakters (Zbo, Birdman, Lance, Allen), he gets the most out of mediocre talent (Lee, Green, Udrih,) and he has the most experience with a team centered around versatile bigs from all the potentially available coaches ( as far as I know).
I think he or Vogel are the obvious top candidates, but I would prefer Joerger.
