Len does everything McGee does, but with more discipline and effectiveness.

Ellis is longer and stronger and taller than Mitchell and knows his role better.

I almost feel like the coaching staff and front office are "tanking" this season to build a strong and long championship contender

Why would anyone trust McGee more than what we've seen from Len, since late last season? For no other reason than he played for the Warriors? Strange
You nailed it. Past history. Most coaches lean on their past experience with guys. Why do you think Thibs brings Taj Gibson back from the dead every spot he ends up at?

So Ordinary That It's Truly Quite Extraordinary

Well, only 7 teams (max) have lost to the Pistons, so... yeah, can't be many teams at the intersection of that Venn diagram.
As bad as our loss was, Portland blowing a 20+ point lead on Detroit's second night after beating us to lose may be even more embarrassing for a team deep in the tank but a fan base hungry for signs of life.

Seems like we might be following a very similar narrative to last season:

Solid start to the season…
Look out of sorts leading up to the trade deadline…
Make no substantial moves, people worry we’ve lost ground to other teams…
Without trade rumors swirling, we kick ass the 2nd half of the season.

Hopefully the similarities end there.
Last year Kings started 0-4, but I guess you're putting a longer time frame on that "start."
