Luther Head?

Luther will probably end up with the Spurs or another West Playoff team looking for a scoring punch off the bench...he would do us no good other than to gum up the works more than they are already.

I would not mind signing him for rest of the year, and seeing how he plays. What do you guys think?
We don't actually have any empty roster spots, so we'd have to cut somebody. Not that Calvin Booth and Cedric Simmons are going to save us, but then again neither is Luther Head. I mean, he was waived by a playoff team who just lost T-Mac so they could sign a D-leaguer before the deadline.

I'm guessing the Maloofs are done spending money on the team this season, there would be exceptions (like if Amare Stoudemire was waived) but Luther Head isn't an exception.

Another very middling player, but even a notch down from the "middling" contributors that we have been accustomed to in guys like Drew Gooden and Beno Udrih.

Head is not a bad pickup for contending teams, that's for sure, and one can hope that he can resurrect himself as a three point ace of sorts who can play solid defense against point guards. That's the expectation if he's ever to become a contributor again. He's still only 26. But he's not what we need--he's already peaked, and aside from his three point shooting, he's pretty much average in every other category. He's a 6'3" SG (I think terming him a combo guard might be too generous for him) who's wavering in and out of three point shooting so that we can't even call him a specialist, exactly. So he's not your conventional scoring gunner guard, and he's not a specialist either, he's peaked, and his athleticism has become progressively average and only is an average passer and defender...that really strikes me as a bottom bench player (8th-10th man) at best. Not for us.
