Fantasy Hoops: Late-Round Mining

Kevin Martin (SG, Sacramento)
Martin moved into the starting lineup after Bonzi Wells suffered a groin injury in December of last season, and went on to average 13.7 points, 1.3 threes, 4.7 rebounds, and 0.9 steals in his 41 starts. A deep thigh bruise limited Martin's late-season contributions, so his overall line from doesn't scream "fantasy superstar." Martin's production as a starter and his overall efficiency make him an ideal late pick, however – he shot 51.1 percent from the field, 42.3 percent from long-range, and 84.0 percent from the line in his starts last season. Wells is gone, Martin should be the team's starter from day one, and will prove to be one of the better late-round values at shooting guard this season. The Kings did sign the versatile John Salmons in lieu of Wells, but the signing was for depth at point guard, shooting guard, and small forward, not to plug him into the starting lineup.
