Thoughts on the draft....

the selection of Mitchell was surprising for a number of reasons:

1) Organizational fit: with Fox, Haliburton, Davis and Wright point guard was the last position we needed. Shades of drafting PappaG while Cousins was on the roster.

2) The Kings are an analytics based front office and Mitchell was by no means an analytics darling. Older players with a 1 year shooting blimp and poor free throws is as anti-analytics as possible. This feels like Vivek getting involved.

Lastly the Kings failure to trade Barnes and tank for what surely could have been higher pick and the 16th pick was largely driven by short “term” Vivek. Imagine if the Kings were able to get Kuminga and Moody plus had Nesmith. The trades for Wright and Richardson would have provided needed depth. Instead, with an impacted back court, those trades looks like wasted seconds that could have been used to move up in the draft.

The one silver lining in drafting Mitchell is you don't have to squint to see him being an impact player like our fanbase has had to do in the past. For me it was Papa G, TRob, Bagley.

So many questions tho. Do we re-sign Davis now? Do we trade Wright at the deadline for a couple second rounders? :D Do we bring Bags and Buddy back after trying to trade them?

Time for that Buddy and Wright for Tobias Harris trade. That would open things up for sure:

Fox- Mitchell
Hali- Davis
Barnes - Woodard
Harris- Metu
Holmes- Jones

I’d play Davis primarily as the backup 3, and let the three guards divide up the 96 minutes. you would still have Queta, Ramsey, Guy, JJ, and hopefully be able to flip Bagley for something.

Monte McNair said Davion Mitchell was the best player available on the board. He believes he can guard four positions and had success in a 3-guard lineup in college, and he thinks Mitchell can defend in the NBA immediately.

How does a 6'1 guy guard four positions?!?
What are you trying to sell us on?
That was truly a ridiculous statement.
maybe not 4, but 3. He did guard big wings like Cunningham.

Vlade said Bagley can play the 3.

I agree that he can't guard 4 positions but on a podcast Durant was saying Holiday was the best defender in the league and the toughest guy to score on. Kevin has 7 inches on him.
