The Official Draft Day thread

Kenny Smith just raved about Giles. And I heard another NBA show yesterday where they said they thought Giles would be the steal of this draft, even if he didn't regain his explosiveness. Sometimes you have to roll the dice on greatness instead of opting for sure fire mediocrity.
Precisely. A good GM isn't made by being complacent but by taking chances and risks and standing by the choices.

I think I'd be happier with Collins at 10, but wasn't wild about Collins at 10 anyway. Recovering from knee injuries like that is tough enough, but two knees, I certainly wish the kid the best. Ouch.

Let the past serve as a future hope for you: last year at this time a lot of people wanted M. Criss and we're upset that the Kings traded back and ended up with Big Papa, Malachi, and skal. I think the majority of us would do that again. Maybe the same holds true again this year

OGs a brickhouse but Indiana churning out bust after bust over the years made me wary of them. It seems every year they got the next lockdown wing defender but their guys suck most of the time. Even the guy who turned out good, I thought would be better(Oladipo)
Besides Oladipo, Yogi and now OG...what other Indiana products are in the league?

Another thing about these draftees - they all seem like really good people. They don't strike you as immature or full of themselves. No knuckle-heads. If you have a team that's filled to the brim with youngins you'd better have good guys on that team or it will be a disaster. This character of these youngins bodes well for the unity of this team going forward.

Vlade is stocking up on draft picks and giving himself as many assets as possible, which is what a good GM does when he is in a rebuilding phase. Not all draft picks will pan out, we know that. They know that.

Hoping for semi or swanigan to fall to 34. Hopefully we can still eat a bad contract for future picks after the draft. Been a good night too far but the greedy part of me wants ojeleye or swanigan also!

Noah Vonleh was a recent guy who got some hype..much more than OG and he's not much in my book.

I was exaggerating and even thinking as far back as the remarkably disappointing Josh Childress.

I just saw Eric Gordon came out of Indiana...so there's that too

Just my opinion, but I really like Jackson a lot more than Isaac. He can drive, pass on the move, has all the shots, including the floater, can play off the ball, can play D. He just needs more consistency on his jumper. He's the type of SF that's going to make plays for others and I love that in a SF. He just needs to be more consistent with his jump shot. He could really be a fan favorite.

wow I completely forgot that Gordon was a Indiana product

I just have this bad feeling that we will never see him play because he will always be injured or rehabbing. Who here wants to bet a soda that Giles will play more "rehab" type games for Reno than total games for the Kings?

Giles is a big project so I see him spending a lot of time with the Bighorns
Honestly that might be the worst thing for him. Keep him with the big club but limit his physical activity for the first season. Assess in year 2. This guy has been compared to C-Webb in high school, was the #1 player in his class year before he was hurt. Give him access to the best trainers, best coaches and best facilities but let him heal.

Is Giles a big project just based on his knees or is it because of his play as well? I didn't really get to see him play much.
Technically, the knees are healed. So physically he should be largely ok and definitely ready by the start of the season. Mentally, he has to recover that edge he had in high school, but I don't know if he can.

If he does, he will do well, if he doesn't, we messed up.

I just went back and watched NBATV's evaluation of the Kings last 2 picks. Steve Smith, Seth Davis and Kenny Smith all raved about it.

Steve Smith thinks he could wind up one of the top 5 players of the draft. He believes that he's still getting better, even though he's 22 yo. Both Kenny and Steve loved his versatility, defensive ability and shooting stroke. They also mentioned the fact that he scores without needing the ball in ISO situations.

As for Harry Giles, they all understood why they took the risk and acknowledged that it could work out. But Seth Davis thought they should have selected Caleb Swanigan instead.
