Free Agency Open Thread (NBA and Kings!)

I'm fairly ambivalent .....was more intrigued with Porter even though more worried. They're grossly overpaying for a 31yro Hill imo. I think they could've gotten Lawson on a 2 yr 18 million deal - much better cap management. Randolph was fine.

According to this article Hill turned down 3 year extension of 88 million from Jazz prior to them getting Rubio.

I'd be looking for new agent if I were him. Lol

Hill has a 3rd year option. He is a much better overall player than Lawson not to mention a vastly superior role model/ mentor. I think it is a great move. We aren't going to be competitive for a few years and need vets to teach these youngsters how to play, train and work the right way.
Much better? I dont think so. Lawson is a bit younger, played well for the Kings last year, and likely would've signed for less money. The whole role model idea is overweighted I think. How would you know anyway who the better mentor is - you don't know either of them personally. And I think precisely because they won't be competitive, you dont start or sign Hill - at least at the much higher cost.

Lawson does have speed on hill but hill can hit the 3 and is a better defender. I can see small-ball lineups with hill and fox working due to hills ability to defend some two guards.
Hill is not a better defender - Lawson was the Kings best defender last year - no one hounded the ball like he did. Hill is the better playmaker and deep shooter. The only thing I can think of is Lawson wanted similar money. In this case, I'd call it close to a wash.

Explain to me how Lawson is close? Hill is a better shooter, defender, teammate and has 4 inches on Lawson. Lawson may have a slight advantage in the passing department but that is all. If Pop is being quoted as to saying Hill was his favorite on a team with Tim Duncan you know he is a good dude that can help out the process. Lawson was an alcoholic. Tough to compare these two.

Imho temple was our best defender. Temple guarded several positions and was good individual and team defender.

A lot of hill's advantges on defense are from his wing span and height advantage on lawson.

Close to what? Their per 36 min stats look pretty close to me, except that Lawson has 7.4 assist per 36 min to Hill's 4.2 . Hill is not the better defender either. I haven't seen Kings guards hound the ball like Lawson did in the last several seasons of Kings players. Anyway, will only know for sure if and when Lawson signs elsewhere.

My friend, This is a great move by the Kings, Mentorship is huge and Hill is a great guy, The glass is half full here not half empty

We definitely aren't playoff material but we have an extremely solid core of vets with a bunch of youngsters that need guidance. Z-Bo is the perfect vet big man that can show the young bigs advanced post moves while Hill will be here long enough to give the reigns to Fox. My guess is that Fox will still get plenty of playing time, but will have someone to learn from. We are actually turning the corner rather quickly and this should help improve our image even further. Who knows, maybe these moves are enough for Porter to come on this way...

There's no cap room left for Porter.

My guess is that after he didn't sign the Kings' offer sheet Divac and co moved on.

He was probably using Sacramento to set the market.

Id bet on the guy without multiple DUIs

Hill/Fox/Mason
Hield/Temple/Richardson
Bog/Jackson/?
Zbo/Skal/Giles
WCS/KK/Papa

If they don't add another SF, I see a good competition between Richardson and Jackson for the last wing rotation spot. I've penciled in Bog, but he's going to have those kids nipping at his heels too.

This is probably still no better than a 30 win team, but they will compete. And as the season gets long, injuries happen, and the kids will get opportunities.
So is this hands down the most exciting off-season since the acquisition of Webber, Vlade & JWill? Different circumstances and goals, but when has it ever been this good since 1998 or whenever that was? I mean draft and FA combined. Vlade is doing work
If Otto Porter signs...

I'll reserve judgement until if and when I see where Lawson lands.........Lawson earned his mettle with the Kings last year imo, That's glass full and overcoming his own adversity.

so if porter has not signed the offer sheet can we pull the offer and offer 16 mil to Bojan?
Bojan's value will be set after the Porter deal. I think he wants more than most teams are willing to pay, unless someone gets stupid and offers him a deal before Porter his fate rests in whether Porter stays or goes.

Lawson isn't better than Hill, 31 is not old and it's a moveable contract in the future if we want to deal him. He also has some playoff DNA in him. Can play SG as well if we want to play Fox and him together.
