This team has not yet shown it is a contending team - it can be as "workman" as you like, but they're 5 games under .500 and have not had a long winning streak. They need to go on a 7-game winning streak right now just to be .500. 2 close wins are a start against teams with better records. Its much more reasonable to predict a slide-back starting with a loss to the Timberwolves next game. That's just a reversion to what you'd realistically expect, not a projection. Do you think Kings fans want losses? Neither do I. I'm big on Lawson, hoping he's making himself into previous form. At the start of the season, he was my biggest hope, anyway.
The way we've been beating quality teams during this streak, why have the 9-19 Timberwolves readily win?

Many reasons not in particular order - Because its away, the Kings have not shown any consistency this season in winning, last year's similar team had a ugly loss against a similar Timberwolves team, the Wolves loss to them earlier (motivation), and most recently a Mavericks beat-down on the road. Who knows, maybe I'm wrong. But That's why I keep repeating, a long win-streak would be a fairly good indicator that the team has found some competitive consistency. They've had several close losses this season. Last years Hornets triple OT loss at home was the defining game of the season - from there on out the Kings faded out. Where does the fire go for teams that don't have big talent? Who knows, but Kings have to try to overcome the talent gap through collective effort.

Collison's play has worried me, Lawson has looked like the better lead guard despite his size. Collison is playing like a very small SG this year

I don't care what the statline shows the past 2 games - Afflalo looks horrible out there to me.
He gets set up repeatedly for wideopen desperately-needed 3's, and bricks them constantly.
He shouldn't be getting 27 minutes when Temple gets 28.

I don't care what people complain about incessantly in the game threads - Caulie-Stein deserves more time on the floor, and especially with Demarcus.
IIRC, one of the only times they've both been playing together, they gained 5 points vs the Blazers, and Joerger immediately pulled Willie.

There is zero justification for not starting Temple anymore.
It's become ridiculous.

Lawson is currently >> Collison.
Again, there's no arguing that.

I want to see a starting 5 of:
Lawson
Temple
Rudy/Omri/Barnes (whoever isn't injured/sick/died of old age)
WCS
Boogie.

Just try something which is actually based off of on-court success, Joerger - just once!

I am only offering this as a thought for you to ponder so you might see a different perspective. It makes a lot of sense to start Temple. I don't disagree. However consider this.

Temple has proven himself so important for us, it would be a shame to be forced not to be able to play him. As our best defender, he makes it look easy (ish) but note the last two games and maybe more he has ended up with 5 fouls. In this game with a LOT of time left. Using Temple at critical moments rather than just starting him because " Thats where the best players are" might be more beneficial.

Not knocking you at all, just another way to look at it and possibly save yourself an aneurysm over this one facet of the coaching job Joerger is doing.
U make a not totally horrible point.. u know who else has foul trouble tho... cousins... so maybe we shouldn't start him we should just save him for the critical moments of the game????

There's absolutely no reason not to start your best shooting guard. Let alone your best defending guard/best defender period.....

This whole letting the other team get up by 10 points to start every single game of the year is getting really old. I'm not faulting Dave for having bad personnel.. foul trouble is not an excuse not to start cousins and it's not an excuse not to start temple . We don't have a ton of talent you play / start your best players.

Maybe even take a lead in the first quarter !?!?

If cousin fouls out we're screwed....if temple I was out we're screwed.... unfortunately that's just the talent level we're at right now

You bunch of bandwagon climbers! :D
(Just kidding here, guys...)

...BTW, think of me whatever you like, but as I see it -
The Kings are probably getting a post-season ticket this year.
(There - I said it!)
That was before the last 2 games...

Hate Love to say I told you so...:)

Ben shouldnt be starting, especially with Rudy out. Thats two nights in a row where his unsound defense has allowed guys to get easy looks and be hot(McCollum and Hayward). Temple has had to come in and play housemaid. Even Afflalo fared better just by being a smarter player. Temple should start for sure and honestly Afflalo should be with the second unit with roster as is.

Still Joerger needs to find some contribution at the wings besides Temple. Temple seems to function well no matter, if he is starting or coming off the bench. He closes every game, which speaks volumes about Joerger's trust in him.
But we can't play Temple for 48 minutes. We desperately need another wing, who is able to defend, make some plays and hit some shots.

Temple can't play 48 minutes. Temple does some heavy lifting with his defense. He can't realistically be effective for 30+ minutes over the course of the season. The minutes he's playing are in line with Tony Allen.

No matter what, if we don't get better defensive production from Ben, whether he starts or comes off the bench, that is the big problem.
