The other trade thread was getting rather big,so I started this one.......

1 month to go before trade deadline. The biggest names out there rumor wise that may be attainable for us are Rubio, Millsap, Dragic, Brandon Knight , Cam Payne...others still out there are Greg Monroe, Melo but no chance he agrees to come here, Noel, one of the Orlando bigs.

Rubio- Minnesota is going to attach Mohammed or A Payne to Rubio to help facilitate a deal. I think this is a deal we can get as Minnesota is said to be looking for at some expiring contract(s). DC and Afflalo and Ben? Rubio is a clear upgrade on defense and in running a team compared to DC, shooting is a problem but if we got Shabazz Muhammed too, that wold be something worth pursuing.

Millsap and Dragic- with Rudy out, we probably can't make this happen

Knight- have heard some rumblings we may be interested in him.....without Rudy's contract, not sure we cold or would make this happen, I'm indifferent on him

Cameron Payne- Rudy's injury probably has killed this potential deal

Our trade chips will be the expiring deals involving DC, Afflalo with his buyout, Ben. Our biggest trade chip may be Koufos paired up with an expiring but I'd want a PG if trading Koufos. He's got solid value in his contract and production.

I personally wouldn't deal any of our rookies or WCS but would deal WCS in a deal involving a promising PG who could take over eventually...such as Cam Payne

Knight is an interesting possibility. There was an article out of Arizona last week that there's been "virtually no" trade market for him. Which makes me wonder--would the Suns take just expirings (Collison and Afflalo, who is only partially guaranteed next season) for him, to open up cap space? He has significant warts in his game, but would help the Kings replace Rudy's scoring this season, and he'd represent a PG under contract for next season, which is more than we can say under the current roster. Something to think about.

I want nothing to do with Knight. He is absolute garbage. His RPM this year is -4.97. That's ranked 85th out of 86 PGs (Semaj Christon from OKC is the only one worse than him). His on/off this year is -16.2! His team is 16.2 pts better with him off the floor. Yikes! Granted this year seems to be worse than others, but he hasn't positively impacted his team in some time.

Does he flash skills? Yes, he does, but that's only part of the battle. It's not just about what skills you have but also knowing how to use those skills to win and better your team. Cousins is a good example. He's always had tremendous offensive ability, but up until this year, the majority of his impact was on the defensive side of the ball. Cousins wasn't playing smart, unselfish, & controlled on offense, and it hurt his impact on that side of the ball. Again, that's not saying that he is a limited offensive player, he just needed to learn how to channel those skills to be dominant offensively and ultimately help his team on that side of the ball. The scoring efficiency & efficient passing are a product of Cousins picking his spots and using his skills correctly. Knight hasn't shown any signs that he is "learning" how to win.

I think I would go for the Rubio, Shabazz package deal instead....for one I like Rubio's defense alot and his passing, but yeah his shooting is an issue. I'd really like to get Shabazz, think he could help us.

I think any chances of us pulling off an impact-full trade before the trade deadline have been snapped with Rudy's Achilles.

We do need a scorer but we need to get them on the cheap somehow. It would be great if we could pull off Isaiah Thomas type of trade that Boston pulled off a couple of seasons ago.

I continue to be amazed at how much some people can suffer from a short term memory. Brandon Knight is having a terrible season and that is precisely the reason why I would have interest. Knight is not a star, hell he is not even a borderline all-star but he can be a productive player and has been his entire career until this season of course.

He is not a pure PG, has been transformed into a chucker at Phoenix and can be wild with the ball. However, if you can get him for an expiring deal I would pull the trigger. He can play as a PG in the system where a lot of the offense is run through Cousins. He is a solid, albeit it streaky shooter from deep and he is a good defender. He is still only 25 and is signed for the next couple of seasons.

I would be backing in our franchise to get Knight back to his best which from memory is a 16ppg/5apg/4rpg player over his career. Nothing jaw dropping but it is the type of asset that we are short on. In a structured offense, it hopefully decreases his wildness with the ball and makes him a productive player. I would happily trade for him if all it costs me is an expiring contract or two. He seems to be out of favor in Phoenix and he appears to want out. If I can get him back to being the type of player he was at the Bucks I call it a win and I have picked up an asset with an expiring contract or two that I likely would not have re-signed anyway. It also doesn't hold me over the barrel to having to re-sign someone at an increased value because I have no other options in FA.

I would do a few minor trades. Probably move Ben for a 2nd rounder, so we can free up 1 roster spot. I feel like there's a lot of DLeague guys who can legitimately play in the league if they were given a real shot.
  8. Čarolija

    Čarolija Well-Known Member

That's all well and good but which team out there would give up a 2nd round pick for Ben McLemore who becomes a FA this summer AND no team is going to extend him the QO to make him a RFA.

Ben has absolutely NO value at the trade table. His only value is as an expiring deal which is not a huge deal to start off with so the value is minimal.

None of those options listed should be a priority at this point in time IMO. Make a play for Millsap come free agency, even though he won't sign here but making an effort is better than not at all. Rubio doesn't fit with Cousins. Cam Payne might be an intriguing get but it won't happen this season. Brandon Knight is the Gay of Point guards so that's a big no no and there is a reason why teams are staying away from him. No team is that desperate right now, hopefully the Kings aren't either. I would really appreciate if Vlade didn't try to make a trade for the sake of making one to try to salvage the season and continue to go after the 8th seed at the expense of losing the draft pick and not playing the young players on the roster that need some time.

With WCS emerging and getting PT, maybe it makes Koufos a bit more available. We do have Skal and Papa who could help with backup minutes.

I would like to see Skal and Big Papa get some run against actual NBA level talent and look good before we trade away Kosta.

Was reading Lebron's rant that Cleveland needs to make a move for another PG. I'd offer them DC and while we are at it, Lebron did like Ben. The only guys they have that would make sense would be Kay Felder, Jordan McRae and Shumpert but I doubt they move Shumpert.

DC and Ben for Shump would be a nice talent upgrade.

You can't just put very raw rookies on the floor and say "swim!". Well, you can, but you surely can't expect anything resembling positive impact.

Ben is done here, so getting even a year-old taco to try out will be a good move - no need for him in Sacramento.
  15. kingsboi

    kingsboi Well-Known Member

I wouldn't exactly label DC a "playmaker" he is a shoot first guard that looks to get his, nothing more, nothing less. However, if Cleveland would offer Kay or McRae, I'd consider it because DC is a goner anyway after this season IMO.

I would love to see some moves that help the future and not the present. Things like getting SOME value for our expiring players, even 2nd rounders. Maybe even land late first round picks.

I like AA for Jeff Green and Ben for Mirotic. Modest trades that bump up positions without any longterm commitment.

As to why other team does it:

Orlando needs guards and wings. AA is actually better playing SF than SG right now, and his best season was in Orlando so the ownership might value him a bit.

Bulls would take Ben just because they are desperate for backcourt shooting and are willing to give it a try, along with probably not planning on keeping Mirotic.

I think turning Collison into Dragic would be a huge improvement, but I don't know how you do that in a way the Heat want.

It will be interesting to see how the team views DC. No doubt he has struggled this year compared to previous two. Is it "the growing pains" of the new systems or does his game simply not fit this team. On paper his game is not too different to that on Conley....no I am NOT saying they are equal but DC is a poor man's version of Conley in a lot of ways so on paper he should be a good fit but has struggled in a major way. Especially since he now is asked to lift his game to cover for a loss of Rudy.

If the front office is ready to move away from DC, then I would not be surprised in the slightest if he gets traded before the deadline. A contender our there will look at DC as the type of player that just might be the piece that helps get to where they want to. It might not be too big a stretch to get a first round pick for DC from a contending team like the Cavs. Sure the salaries will need to match and all that but it is a possibility.

Especially since Jordan Farmer is still around waiting to be picked up but someone and we have been there before and he was pretty solid in the stint with the team to start off the season.

I think they should trade Collison, and any other expiring deals. Get what you can, if you cannot get anything then it is what it is

I maintain that Collison's problem is his reluctance and that his drive game has fallen off. He's always been a bit frail, and trying to drive in this system has not worked for him. However, he's gottne many open perimeter shots that he is passing up, and each time anyone passes up an open shot, it puts added pressure on the offense. It's not like these shots are being passed up for better ones, but that they are just unsure of the shot on some mental level. Cousins does this sometimes as well when he pump fakes or delay drives off a 3pt shot, but he is creative enough to get away with it. Collison has to take the open shots and start making them.

Dc passes up a lot of shots because his release is so slow.
I also dont get the poor mans Conley comparison. Ok they are.roughly the same size, but what else in Dc's game reminds you of Conley.

Rondo-Hoiberg situation seems to be heating up in Chicago. With Ty and Temple becoming legit pickups, maybe Vlade starts calling the Bulls for DC/Affalo/filler for Rondo/Mirotic.

Rondo plays lazy defense. This wouldn't go well with Joerger. The spacing issue wouldn't be that bad with DMC emerging as a good 3point shooter and the option to play Tolliver or in your case Mirotic at the 4.
But would Rondo be able to beat Lawson for the starting spot?
What's sad is that upgrading our PG spot for next season looks like a really tough task. We could try to sign one of Teague, Hill or Holiday, but their teams have the bird rights and the Kings aren't really a better FA landing spot right now than the Pacers, Utah or Pelicans. After those guys there isn't much left in the FA market, assuming we don't want to pay Rose or go with an aging Williams.
A trade might be a solution, but we don't have valuable trade assets, so we are limited to younger PG's not getting enough minutes or older guys fallen out of the rotation. Tyus Jones in Minny may be one of those younger guys, who might be able to step up when given more minutes. I don't think Tj McConnell would be available, but when the 76ers draft a PG next offseason or view Simmons as a guy similar to Giannis he might be the odd man out. Rozier might very well be available, if the Celtics decide to draft just another PG. We could throw a bunch of young assets at PHX for Bledsoe or try to ressurect Knights career.
So all in all trade scenarios don't look very promising.
And in the end there is the draft. I don't know anything about the upcoming draft class. All I know is, that we are bound in a possible pick swap with the 76ers and lose our pick, when we fall out of the Top10. So the best case scenario looks like a late Top10 pick and with DMC, Vlade, Vivek and Joerger all seeming to be adamant of trying to reach the Playoffs the odds of losing the pick completely are there.

Well with all that in mind, having Rondo for just another season and trying to give him the same kind of treatment Joerger has given Ty Lawson doesn't look that bad all of the sudden.....
I personally would prefer a diamond in the rough from somewhere, that is able to shoot, play D and moves the ball well, but honestly I don't think Vlade is able to come up with a solution outside the known paths.

I think this is a possibilty. Why all of sudden after months of little playing time is WCS getting big min this close to deadline. Kind of a lets see what you can do type thing.
  26. KingsFanGER

    KingsFanGER Well-Known Member

Pretty simple. Because he is doing, what he is supposed to do on the court - defend, rebound, run the floor, finish at the rim.
WCS hurt his playing time with his poor effort and play over months. He always got minutes, when he played well enough. Now he made the most out of his last two chances. But so far it's only two games and nothing to get too exited about. If Willie continues to play like that, I expect KK to become available. But I doubt anything happens before the offseason. Willie has to prove first, that he finally wants to contribute to this team and is not content to just sit on the bench.
Go for it young fella! We all are rooting for you. More of this blow by moves please....;)

I don't trade Koufos unless I'm getting a good player in return......we need a PG and I understand the limitations on how good of a PG but maybe the teams that want an expiring too...Koufos and DC for said PG
