TDOS All Time Kings Fantasy Draft II (Round 10)

Don't Make Me Use The Bat
#1
A complex title, for a simple concept: Welcome to the Second All Time Kings Fantasy Draft, wherein you will get a chance to draft your own team of Sacramento Kings from all the Sacramento Kings who have ever been.

I will now copy paste my intro from the last one of these in 2010:

"But Mr. Bricklayer, I am ignorant pond scum and can't possibly remember who was on the team in 1989, or how many points Randy Beuer averaged in 1993-94!"

Pan down -- the work has been done for you (and if you don't think that was some work, I've had this window open for a solid week putting it together). Every player ever to suit up for the Kings, every player to ever play even 1 game as a King, has been listed, summarized, and had his career stats linked to. There are no excuses. This is your franchise. Let's get it on.

Below are the rules, with one

BIG NEW NOTE: last time around it became obvious that due to a certain lack of credible superstars in Kings history, that the people who were able to score the top few draft positions had an enormous insurmountable edge by being able to trot out Chris Webber or Mitch Richmond. So this year I have decided to be clever in order to get around that problem:

-- each team will consist of 9 players + 1 coach
-- but 3 players, Chris Webber, Mitch Richmond, and now DeMarcus Cousins have been set aside as special franchise players. There will be 4 "copies" of each player available for selection. i.e. 4 Webbers, 4 Cousins, and 4 Richmonds. Each team may only select 1 franchise player, who may be taken during any round of the draft, to start/anchor their team with. It will make sure everybody gets a cornerstone player to make this a viable competition.

Otherwise, same old rules, with a couple of minor adjustments:

Da Rules
1) The draft will be serpentine and last 10 rounds -- enough to draft 9 players and 1 coach.

2) Each participant will have 24 hours to make each pick, beginning from the moment that the player ahead of them picks.
Note: as a courtesy when you make your own pick, immediately send a PM to the person after you in the draft order. However receipt of such a PM is a courtesy only -- if you do not receive such a PM and take more than 24 hours to make a pick, you will be skipped over and have to make a makeup pick later.

3) All of the players' stats are linked up below. With each selection please indicate which of the player's seasons for the Kings you would like to draft. If a player was here from 91-92 until 96-97, then indicate which of those seasons you are taking. It would be greatly appreciated if you listed the stats that season as well -- otherwise I will have to go look them up. Note that players can still only be drafted once -- 3 people can't draft the same player and just taker different seasons. Note 2: games played stats from the strike shortened '98-'99 and 2011-12 season will be prorated out over 82 games. Hence a player who played in 47 of the 50 games (94%) in 98-99 will be given credit for having played in the equivalent of 77 games (82 x.94) in anormal 82 game season.

4) when the draft is completed, any player may freely exchange any of their drafted players for any undrafted free agent. I'm thinking first come first seved there -- just whenever it is posted.

5) each participant will be responsible for $100 in remuneration to Bricklayer for his work in this thread.

6) we'll figure out the exact post draft mechanics of the playoffs later. Likely I will ask in PM for everybody to send in how many games they think each team could win agiainst a real NBA schedule, average out th result, and use that to rank the playoffs. But we'll see.

Come on, its the history of your Kings. Come have fun wallowing in the fugly.

Coaches
Phil Johnson -- Sacto's 1st coach, and got that team to a first round exit. Fired next year after a debacle in L.A..
Jerry Reynolds -- repeat interim coach always there to fill in, then a fill in GM, now plays Chuckles the Hick on TV.
Bill Russel -- HOF player who came to town in a cynical money grab. Had no interest in coaching or working.
Dick Motta -- decrepit old coach with over 900 career wins...and 1000 losses. Well thought of before Sacto.
Rex Hughes -- Motta's assistant, took over as interim, had a temper
Gary St. Jean -- here for 5 years and never had a winning record, did make the playoffs once though.
Eddie Jordan -- took over as interim, was back the next year and lost the team during a rebuilding year.
Rick Adelman -- have heard he can't coach D, won't develop players etc. Has funny knack for winning though.
Eric Musselman -- master of powerpoint strategy, so great that COY Scott Brooks was a mere groveling assistant.
Reggie Theus -- before tripping over his ego and wearing thin, got modest results out of misfit crew.
Kenny Natt -- so renowned databasebasketball thought his work spoke for itself and did not bother opening a page
Paul Westphal
-- veteran mediocrity, bit cranky, could not deal with Cousins' immaturity at all

Keith Smart -- Nellieball wannabe. With a name like that, his genius was obvious. Big talker.
Mike Malone -- well, at least went so far as to talk about defense. And featured Cuz. Baby steps.

possible early rule change, looking at my BIG NEW NOTE, it occurred to me that its possible not a single person would take Adelman, given the enormous opportunity cost (i.e. no superstar) if you did that. Maybe the first round should just be choose between Webber/Cuz/Mitch to start your team, and Rick should be returned to the normal draft pool to provide an interesting strategic choice of when to go for him rather than a player.

Quick question- if I drafted a player that could play two positions (for example, a Jason Thompson or Big Nasty), can I start them at either position? Or only at their listed position?

start them anywhere you want. I just listed them at positions to make them easier to find/organize.

Note also, still updating to add in the players form the last 3 years who weren't here in 2010.

Given that I was robbed of the championship last time despite having clearly the best team despite having the handicap of getting only 1 of the top 23 and 2 of the top 35 picks, I'd be willing to throw my hat back into the ring.

Now if I can just find the spreadsheets I created to make sense of and differentiate between all these fantastic players...

That's why I have come to detest the serpentine draft.

Ok everybody, going to make one last remark in the main forum, then start heating this thing up.

Please everybody on the above list (or if you're not and want to be) give us a little check in here just to confirm. Once I know how many we have, I'll make any final tweaks to the rules, determine a randomized draft order, and put up everybody's waiting-to-be-filled draft brackets.

I'd cheerfully accept a #11, if we could find a #12.

And don't run off anyway...I need to hear back from the other 4 interested peeps just to make sure we have our initial 10. if I don't we could end up needing a replacement anyway.

stero, 63, you're the last two I need a check in from, and then we're good to go...except of course for finding a 12th person to let DD join up.

Remember the first round will just be the choose your franchise player round. Two things:

-- since picking first in that round is not really an advantage, because people picking later can see what you are up to and change their own picks/strategies accordingly, I think that we go ahead and have it in normal draft order (which is maybe very slight edge to people at the back of the draft), but then for rnd 2 we start again with drafter #1,

In other words if the drafter order were:

1) stero
2) Dime Dropper
3) Bosnian Diehard

then in Rnd 1 stero pick his franchise guy first and Bosnian last, and then in Rnd 2 stero again picks first as we swing inot our normal snake (In Rnd 3 Bosnian would be pikcing first)

QUESTION FOR GROUP:
-- I will leave this entirely up to you, but with 12 people it occurs to me that if you thought it would be better, rather than having free franchise player choosing, where there can be 8 Webbs, 3 Mitches and 1 Cuz, or whatever, that we could instead divvy the franchsie guys up equally and just say there were 4 available Webbs, 4 available Cuz's and 4 available Mitch's. Make the first round minorly competitive. But also make the people at the end of the first round at a slight disadvantage as they would have to take whatever less popular franchise guy was left over.

Which way do you think it should be done?

ok, our random # sequence is:
8
11
9
5
4
6
10
3
7
12
1
2

and our drafters are:

Capt. Fact
stero
William Blake
kingsnation
NoBonus
Jespher
63Royals
uolj
Bricklayer
Bosnian Diehard
Dime Dropper
Lowenherz

hence our draft order will be:

8- Capt. Fact
11- stero
9- William Blake
5- kingsnation
4- NoBonus
6- Jespher
10- 63Royals
3- uolj
7- Bricklayer
12- Bosnian Diehard
1- Dime Dropper
2- Lowenherz

I'll go build a draft board. And any input on the first round question I posed above? Whichever of the 3 superstars you want, regardless of number? Or 4 available of each?
