I guess we can all now stop this talk about hiring Hinkie, to be honest, I had to google Scott Perry two times, to find out if it is a real person... why two times? Because first-time when I tried to google Scott Perry it showed me some Pennsylvania politician and quite frankly I was confused at first.

And one interesting thing this guy was part of a 2004 Pistons championship team, as an assistant GM to Joe Dumars.

But what is the best out of this is that he was working with Sam Presti, who is one of the best general managers in the NBA at drafting, I hope this guy can help us with some home runs in this year's draft.

I know nothing about Scott Perry, he may be great I just don't know. What I do know is Orlando fired him after being with them for 5 years. Orlando has made some terrible moves while he was there

Well, Orlando fired their GM, and it's not unusual to clean house at the same time. Perry may have been collateral damage.

This is indeed a concern. I hope the Kings didn't settle for a compromise solution, who would accept Vlade's final say, only to keep Vlade Divac as de facto GM in place.
Always difficult to figure out individual contributions of an assistent GM, so basically we don't know if Henningan just ignored Perry's counsel, when he screwed up the Magic, or if Perry played a role in that.
But being involved with the Magic doesn't make you a bearer of hope for most fanbases.
Anyways - best of luck Mr. Perry.

Well NBA twitter seems to be gushing over it, much like they did when we hired Cantanella so I assume that is a good thing.

Nice to see at least one person with a positive response to the news. Must be because you're new. :p

I swear, Kings fans drive me nuts. Every single time something happens they cannot enjoy it or think it might be a good thing. Before people dump all over Perry for being fired by Orlando, let's just remember that Dave Joerger was fired by Memphis.

Eh, still not with Divac having the final say

I'm trying to look at the positive all the time.
I jumped on a bandwagon in the early 2000's and I'm still rolling with my Kings, I might be the only Kings fan in my country, to be honest haha

Still sometimes when I play pick up basketball I'm rocking with my Chris Webber jersey. Gotta represent the Kings am I right?

well at least there is structure here.

Trading skills aside, im fine with Vlade being the head dog as long as that is the plan moving forward. I really dont want to see a new GM and FO in the short/medium term.

Assuming Ken had a bit to do with this because Perry has Detroit experience under his belt.

    From Yahoo:

"Perry will report to president and general manager Vlade Divac and work in the front office with assistant general manager Ken Catanella, league sources said"

Regarding the Magic and the doomsayers: According to Magic fans the current debacle that is the Orlando Magic was orchestrated by the combination of two people. Rod Hennigan and Alex Martins, Chief Executive Officer. Not Perry.

Sam Amick tweeted the chain o command is now Vlade > Perry > Ken. I guess with a Vivek fog encompassing all life.

Of course it's too early to pass judgement but I think this is a good move. Perry will handle the day to day machinations. This should alleviate our weakness with dealing with other teams if nothing else.

Solid experienced hire. Should help Vlade with the basics of contracts, et cetra...check.

Clear pecking order is established, which should keep our FO from descending into the chaotic mess that was the PDA era...check.

.... lil goblin owner chomping at the bit to take over the decision making process whenever he's struck by an insane whim..... check.

All our "good" moves are kinda moot with Vivek lurking in the shadows. But we'll see how this goes.

Um, Vivek approved all these recent hires. I think it's abundantly clear that he is doing what he said - he's letting Vlade steer the ship.

This is really the set up I wanted all along. :)

I am happy Vlade has the final say in player personnel. He has been a good talent evaluator.

This is similar to the set up of Larry Bird in Indiana, Bird has final say on everything, but he lets his GM do the leg work on trades and negotiations.

What Vlade needed help with was his negotiations on trades and deals. I think Perry will help a lot in that area and Perry is well connected in the NBA.

I think this will give the Kings a very professional and cohesive front office, since they were all hired by Vlade, including the coach, they should share the same vision for the Kings. :)

Seems like a solid hire. Orlando has been pretty bad the past 5 years, but they've been able to bring some talent in. The guy has a lot of experience, so hopefully it works out in the end.

edit: Perry wanted to trade for Cousins in Orlando, but GM Rob Hennigan didn't want to..
that type of moves scares the poopoo out of me. Why would Orlando want a 1 year rental of Cousins? They tried the same with Serge Ibaka, and Ibaka was set to leave in FA.

As long as he knows how to make moves. Vlade will keep him out of trouble. We are building a fortress.

Honestly - what do you expect us to say? I assume your comment about constant negativity was caused by my posting. All I did is mention the Orlando ties. I even pointed out, that we don't know how Perry was involved in the decisions that led to Orlando's current situation. Now Suicide King gave us a little more insight on that matter. So for all it's worth, Perry might not been involved in the messy rebuild attempts and his dismissal might have been collateral damage.

Joerger was fired by Memphis after 3 years of constant playoff appearances and after a 42-40 record at the end of a season with massive injuries to his core players. He wasn't fired, because he had no success. He was fired, because there was friction between him and the FO. Even if Perry wasn't directly involved in the decisions that led to Orlandos current roster, his dismissal is not comparable to Joergers.

I really like this hire too. Orlando hasn't been able to get all their pieces to fit, but it's encouraging to me that they've targeted a lot of defensive personnel the past 5 years while he was there. Getting Victor Oladipo and Elfrid Payton in the draft, trading for Serge Ibaka and Moe Harkless, signing Dewayne Dedmon and Bismack Biyombo. And of course that Pistons team that won the Finals had easily the best single-season defensive performance in the modern era. I have no way of knowing what his role was in all of that, but it's clear that he has experience and he's been around NBA executives who value defense highly. I'm going to take that as a good sign for our future. The DeMarcus era is over, for better or worse. Time to forge a new identity and I like these last two front office hires. I'll take any significant changes as an excuse to be optimistic at this point.

Actually even if he was hired to supplant Vlade and have final say it would probably go down like this so as to not upset yet another coach/GM imbalance. I will assume the days of offering Cousins for Vucevic/Fournier are over for good

No idea who this guy is. I just hope he can find some gems in the draft and help Vlade from doing anymore trades on his own.

Read the articles links to in this thread. Do some homework. This is a good hire by the Kings, and the first time in forever I'm seeing universal thumbs up on Twitter at all levels of sports commentary.

What do I expect you to say? Well, since you asked...

"Hey, look like the Kings may have gotten something right for a change. This guy certainly has the credentials. I've got some concerns, but on face value this looks encouraging."

You admit you don't know if Perry was involved in "messy rebuilt attempts" but jump immediately to the most negative conclusion. I just find that off-putting. You'll continue to post your views, though, and I'll continue to post mine. The truth is probably somewhere in between. We can't help ourselves. We're Kings fans.
