Another week like the last two, and Bajaden will once again reign supreme! Wait, what did you say about our draft picks in 2017? I'm hopeful a home stand and some practice will tighten the loose nuts. Oh yeah, and DC is back. On to the rankings!

Dave Joerger has slowed the Kings down considerably. After leading the league in pace last season, they rank 29th this year. That may be one reason why eight of their 11 games (including each of the last four) have been within five points in the last five minutes. They fought back from a double-digit deficit in Portland on Friday, but couldn't get stops in overtime. They're now in the middle of four days off before a five-game homestand. But the five teams coming to town have a cumulative record of 34-14.

Mike Malone had the Kings playing deliberately (and winning, until DeMarcus Cousins got sick), then the owner wanted to run, and they got George Karl. Now Dave Joerger has them playing slowly again, but that only works well for a good defensive team, and the Kings are 25th in the NBA on that front. Cousins trade rumors are swirling around the league, how the players (including Cousins himself) handles that will have a lot to do with if they can start to get wins.

An apparently motivated Rudy Gay has to be taken seriously, and the Kings are competing. But in the grander scheme, it’s a little distressing that all three of their first-round picks were just dispatched to the D-League.

Shaq, a Kings minority owner, said publicly that the Kings might look to go in another direction if the Cousins situation doesn't turn around. That's a pretty interesting crack in the Kings' "never trade" position.

Worrisome stat: Sacramento has sunk to 0-4 when DeMarcus Cousins scores at least 30 points. Promising stat: Cousins ‎ranks third in the league in getting to the free throw line, trailing only Anthony Davis (11.3) and Russell Westbrook (10.9) with 10.7 FTs attempted per game. ‎What we can't quantify: how long the playoff-starved Kings will show patience with this roster, knowing that internal expectations are higher than what we're seeing, irrespective of a road-heavy schedule thus far.

Mean Ranking: 22.8
We're a stronger team than our record currently indicates.

Beer of the Week:
2012 Cognac aged Dark Lord
Last week was certainly challenging, so I went with a 4 year old barrel aged imperial stout. Very powerful notes of dark fruit, and a sweet finish from melding with the Cognac barrel. Some peppers were thrown in as well, to probably balance the sweet finish and give it some spice.
