This is the game postponed from November. Hopefully the good folks in the Wells Fargo Center have figured out what not to do when you've got a basketball game scheduled. :p

Omri Casspi is listed as a "game time decision" while Joel Embiid is still up in the air. The latest injury report says "out until at least Jan. 30"...

The Kings can win this game.

I think I read somewhere they are resting Embiid tonight so he is ready tommorrow. Not sure how injuries would play into that though.

Ah I just read it. Questionable due to knee soreness. The guy is a monster but that they are treating him like an 34 year old instead of 24 year old would scare the crap out of me.

Philly has a game tonight so we should have the advantage tomorrow. If Embiid doesn't play, then definitely no excuses.

This is the thing I don't get when people are out there talking up the Sixers. They are one injury away from sucking real bad. Embiid us good, real good BUT he has history of serious injury and it is worrisome that you have to manage him and play him on minute restriction at the age of 24. His best is elite and so Sixers go as far as Embiid takes them. For all the talk about how Sixers have rebuilt well, they are one injury to Embiid away from being a really bad lottery team.

Simmons coming back too though... A lot of upside between those two.

Simmons is still unproven. He might be the next LBJ or another average #1 pick. Sure there are signs but there it is HIGHLY unlikely that he will have the same impact on the Sixers as Embiid has had this season.

Philly coming off back to back, embiid possibly out, kings getting a day of rest. Add that to the fact the kings are beating teams they shouldn't has me scared the kings are playing a team we should beat.

Sixers sitting Embiid out versus Chicago so he can play versus Boogie...wise move. I've been anticipating this rematch for the last month. Let's see how Embiid plays Boogie this time around.

I mean we are too, just our meal ticket doesnt have injury history other than common ankle sprains and foot soreness.

This season, I agree. I got a pretty good look at Simmons in Summer League, and he has a lot of talent but he has a long way to go (particularly in being able to hit a jump shot of any sort) before he is really going the impact the NBA. And to be honest, Philly pretty much HAS to play him, even if he struggles, so I would not be surprised if they have a worse record overall once he comes back.

Something interesting happened on road to nowhere and another woebegone season...we took an off ramp to relevancy and competitiveness and playoff legitimacy.

The Pacers game had a disappointing finish but our offense was humming with crisp and glorious execution the way James Naismith intended. We controlled that game....as we did in Charlotte barring minutes washed up Matt Barnes looked distracted by being a lamb on the run from the law.....looking over his shoulder for the NYPD as excuse for another bricked shot or careless pass or blown defensive assignment...regardless of the tattooed toxic trickster what happened for this team to go from inept to adept? From sorry to soaring? From sad to satisfying? From lame to game? From hopeless to hopeful? From done to just getting warmed up?

It doesn't hurt DC has been lights out. Where are the critics now? Those who want DC off the team. Is 55% FGs 49% 3s 15 PPG 4 APG vs 1.4 TPG in month of January not good enough for you? I never criticized this guy or was reluctant to do so because when you are speedy fast and can shoot the lights out slumps don't last, hence 65% shooting in 3 of our last 4 wins. Then there's Willie and Malachi who have joined the party with meaningful minutes.....and Tolliver helping defend the 3 and respond with timely 3s of his own. Boogie has been 2016-17 Boogie....with his improved passing and scoring efficiency and clutch play. Yet all this has occurred with one constant.....no more Rudy. I can't help but conclude his absence has opened opportunity for underachievers and ball movement, for resurgence likely to last into February and beyond.

The Kings best strategy in their pathetic 1-6 home stand was what I dubbed the Rope-a-Dope, granting 14+ point deficits before rallying when opponent became disinterested and overconfident. By contrast our Kings on this road trip have controlled the games from ahead in Detroit, Cleveland, Indiana and Charlotte. Even for good teams this is NO small task! The absence of Rudy and to lesser extent the emergence of WCS and Malachi, and to similar extent the renewed effectiveness of Tolliver, Collison and Affalo have allowed the Kings to dictate tempo and outcome, favorably in 3 of 4.

No Rudy? No problem. Our defensive rotations are sharper. Our shot distribution is more balanced. We don't have a #2 scorer. But when Boogie plays like he did against the Hornets we don't need a #2, just a collective and determined group who hustle and defend and make open shots, intent on salvaging a season before added to junk pile of those accumulated over the last decade.

    Go Kangz Kings! :)

I wasn't that impressed with Ben Simmons in Summer League. Tentative. Taller version of Ricky Rubio.

So they rest Embiid on the front game of the back to back, against a team (Bulls) that they're potentially competing with for the 8 seed? Sucks for the Kings.

I really don't like Barnes to the point that its negative perception towards Joerger for playing him for as long as he has. Casspi hopefully will be ready, and hopefully the organization makes the preference for Casspi known if Joerger won't willingly stop. I can't watch Barnes

Well Embiid is their core piece, but I don't think Okafor, Simmons, Noel, Saric, McConnell, Convington, Holmes and Stauskas are scrubs. Over the next 3 years the 76ers will have 5 first round picks, which will be most likely in the Top10, if the Lakers or Kings don't improve suddenly. Their roster is very young and so far not costly at all. The biggest issue is the upcoming FA of Nerlens Noel, who is upset and wants a bigger role.
They need to find a good trade for Okafor or Noel to move forward with a more balanced roster, but Noel will be a RFA, so their hand is not forced to make a move asap. Both their backup bigs have decent value and might help to sort out their PG or SG situation in a trade.
Sixers have done a nice job in developing some of their young pieces. They have a decent culture, thanks to Embiid, McConnell and Coach Brown. They make tons of mistakes, but they play hard every game, despite not being a veteran team.
Long story short - 1 potential star, a ton of young assets with upside, a ton of draft picks, a ton of capspace, a hard working no nonsense culture - despite the injury risk of Embiid this is still a very good rebuild. The Sixers have card blanche to built a contender over the next 5 years. I don't trust their FO to make it work, but the assets are there.

The Kings on the other hand? 1 proven star player, a ton of aging veterans, their second best player is out with a potentially career ending injury, 2 expiring PG's, some young assets, potentially 1 draft pick over the next 3 years, less cap space than the 76ers, a marginally better record so far, a lot of talk about culture, but so far came out with a lack of focus and effort in a lot of games.

I don't think we should talk down the 76ers.

If the organization feels it's necessary to step in and dictate things to the coach about something as minute as his preference of our role player forwards, then we've got bigger problems than Barnes being unwatchable.

I'm not even sure we should be hoping Casspi breaks back into the rotation. It's one thing to think he should be taking minutes from Barnes (which I would agree on), but the reality of the situation is that it's pretty evident Joerger thinks Barnes' minutes are untouchable. If Casspi breaks back into the rotation, take a wild guess as to whose minutes he's going to take...

I hope that Embiid vs Cousins match-up will be epic, I really believe that Embiid is going to be tremendous as he will continue to progress as a franchise player for the 76ers.

Also I sincerely hope Casspi will be given a chance from Joerger tonight because I feel like I haven't seen him play for a three years now.

    Let's go Kings.

So you keep pessimism just for Kings :)

I was expecting more in the line that 76's messed their 6 first round picks by selecting injury riddled youngsters (Embiid, Okafor, Noel, Simmons), guard that cannot shoot (McConnell) and inefficient chucker (Covington), and why would the next 5 picks be any better.

On the serious note, I like what Philly did, and they have a good potential.
But before praising their culture this year and criticising Kings culture as being inferior despite veterans, might be worth of note that Sixers have the same coach for the past 3 1/2 years and kept the same strategy they announced 3 1/2 years ago.
Kings have 1/2 season with the same GM and coach in place.

If the process is/was so great why did they fire the Architect of it all? Should Hinkie be in the running for GM of the year even though he got fired? Why do all the 6ers first round picks get injured?

Embiid is playing great but don't overlook what Ilyasova and Saric add to that team. Simmons is the x factor IMO. If he can come back and be a point forward that requires a double team then the 76ers become very hard to beat.

This is a HUGE game for us. During the past 3 years, we've had stretches where we would play really good basketball but we would always lose a game like this and it would derail us back into the losing habits. If we can get this one, I feel like we might break through and keep this thing rolling the rest of the year.

And you know, that's how it's going to be for Embiid's entire career. He will always be on a minutes restriction and miss games when the schedule gets tough. It's only going to get worse as he ages also.
  29. ockingsfan

    ockingsfan Well-Known Member

Not necessarily. A lot of times, teams will play it safe the 1st year a player returns from a major injury. This is true for baseball players too.

The minutes and back to back game restrictions may be taken off after 1-2 years of showing he is healthy.

Of course everyone is different and I'm sure how his knee feels in the coming years will dictate his minutes, after this year.
