Kings roster - two years view

#1
Seems to me we are quite set for the next two years.

PG: Fox/Mason (Collison or Lawson as a mentor)
SG: Hield/Bogdan?/Malachi (Temple as a mentor)
SF: JJ
PF: WCS/Skal
C: Papa (KK as a mentor)

Future new faces: Giles, 2018 Pick

Get 2-3 of short term solid veterans at SF/PF this off season and call it a day.

As a sweetener grab some 2019/20 first round picks in exchange for bad contracts just to reach salary bottom.

Far from slam dunk but I love this!

Fox and Skal, as a duo, have a rediculously high ceiling.

A set Buddy behind the 3 point line was already giving me that entitled Peja "put 3 points up" feeling.

A motivated (that's the tricky part) WCS can be a 2 way beast.

Papa, Mali, Bogs, and the rest are wild cards.

I think we're going to be fun and terrible next year, with the kids giving us occasional flashes of brilliance. I've never been this pumped for a 20-30 win team before!

Kings are young and exciting. Trust in coach Jeager to get the best out of them and things will be exciting sooner than later. I know its the wrong franchise but #trusttheprocess. Go Kings!

Yes, we have quietly and unceremoniously put together one of the most youth talent stacked rosters in the game.

And again, I don't think we drafted any busts. Only risk really is Giles knees. I love that Mason pick at the end there. It was almost like Vlade saying "See? Deosn't matter where where I pick I always get us good pick guys."

If Mason insists on shooting anywhere near his college 3pt%, he may be giving Fox a run for his money at the starting job. Great 6th man type though with his scoring ability.

WCS isnt pf, he is a full time center in this league. No point in destroying the spacing by having two non shooting big men on the floor at the same time. It would make things unnecessarily hard for a rookie pg whose game is all about getting to the rim.

I do not disagree with you.
I would put him in between (he cannot bang with big guys yet).
With the added mid range jumper from last season, he can spend time with kk on the floor if needed so I put him at pf.

And now we just need to step back and let the kids do what kids do the best.... grow

Here's how I see it as of now, before we take on an albatross contract or two in exchange for future picks, or sign an overpriced FA:

SEASON 1:
PG: Lawson/Fox/Mason
SG: Hield/Bogdanovic/Malachi
SF: Temple/Malachi/Jackson
PF: Labissiere/??/Giles
C: Cauley-Stein/Papagiannis/Koufos

Where we're short here is a vet PF (??). Ironic since we just released A. Tolliver. But maybe with our cap space, we can do better. Maybe a strong rebounder and defensive specialist would be better for us.
I'd prefer we sign Lawson to be our PG veteran/mentor, but I wouldn't be dissappointed if it were Collison or someone else at that level. A 2-year contract with a team option for a 3rd year would be ideal. Or Milos, although that would likely require a longer-term contract.

SEASON 2:
PG: Fox/Mason/Lawson
SG: Hield/Bogdanovic/Malachi
SF: Malachi or Jackson/Temple
PF: Labissiere/??/Giles
C: Cauley-Stein/Papagiannis/Koufos

We can also look forward to a high draft pick for season 2.

We've sucked pretty miserably for the last 10 years but I feel like we've done a full rebuild in a single season. Obviously we aren't going to compete next year but I believe we have a talented coach and if we don't get stupid and blow our cap space because it's burning a hole in our pockets, I think we're going to be set to make a run at some talent next season after a full year of evaluating team needs.

We should look to give a team cap relief for a SF packaged with a 2019 first. Do we still have one more day we can trade Afflalo?

Aside from that, I'd just go with what we have and then try to fill the gaps in next season after we have evaluated our youth movement.
Which brings up the Afflalo question, today is the last day to opt out of his contract and we didn't trade him yesterday. Which means, most likely we won't be trading him for a pick or a player by today.

My concern is that they actually retain Afflalo and his $12 million salary for next year.

Quick, someone call or email Vlade or Perry so they don't forget to opt out of Afflalo's contract before it is too late!

The way I see the draft was that Point Guard and Small Forward and a backup Power Forward was our biggest needs.

And guess what, Vlade got us 2 Point Guard, a Small Forward and a Power Forward!

I think the second round pick came down to Mason, Evans, Ojeleye and Bell.

I think Vlade picked Mason because of his shooting, to counter balance Fox's suspect shooting at the point guard position. I think he also bypassed Ojeleye because he sees Malichi and Bogdan being able to fill some minutes in at small forward. He passed on Bell because we got Giles.

I also think Vlade purposely avoided drafting any Shooting Guards to reassure Bogdan that he will get playing time, thus insuring we can sign Bogdan this summer! :)

This is a pretty impressive rebuild in basically 1 years time. Our roster all of the sudden is filled with young players with upside and that can grow together.

Also, our roster is very balanced now and should be very exciting to watch .

PF: Skal/ Giles
SF: Jackson/ Temple / Malichi
C: WCS/ KK/ Papa G
SG: Heild/ Bogdan/ Malichi
PG: Fox/ Mason/ (resign Lawson?)
