Congrats to Doug and Kayte and Koz and Jerry. You see what I did there?

Any poll which indicates that the broadcast duos of Heinsohn/Gorman and Reid/Fiorentino aren't fighting over DFL cannot possibly be taken seriously. Neither can a poll which suggests that there are four broadcast teams that are better than Matt Devlin and Jack Armstrong... and two of those teams are the Kings and the Knicks?! FOH with that.

Lots of people dislike Grant around here, but the duo of Grant-Jerry is really good. Grant has been really annoying lately with his constant boosting of the young players(FO probably asked him to), but he's been really good. The reason why people really like them is because they're a good comfortable combo. Grant is our play by play guy, and he's extremely unbiased. He's not a big homer, and had no problem calling out certain Kings players when they're in the wrong. They also do a good job talking about the opposing team too.

It's really not hard to see why everyone likes our duo. Especially if you're a non-Kings fan watching games. They come off really energetic, funny, excited, and unbiased.

No, he isn't. He's the opposite of that. In fact, he's so blatant about appearing to be unbiased, that he overcorrects on the back end.

What's easy to understand about why non-Kings fans would like Napear is that it's human nature as a fan to like a guy that slurps your team, and Napear does that, all the time.

Napear was brutal in his dislike for Boogie and his behavior and then lately, he's the one complaining about the refs. Funny how that works. Napear is not that good. When you listen to G man and then to Napear, it shows the difference in a good announcer and an average one.

Indeed. I don't know how anyone who's ever heard Gary Gerould call a basketball game can say that Napear is good, with a straight face.

I know that I'm supposed to turn the other cheek. I guess I'm petty. But I have a real hard time getting over his two-face antics. How the team still employs him I don't know, he's harmful to the fan base.

Grant was hard on Boogie, but aside from that, he calls it like he sees it. If the Kings get a lucky call, he says they got a lucky call instead of making excuses about why they got the call e.g. makeup call, hustle. If the Kings get a bad break, he calls the referees out on it.

He didnt use to do that when Cousins was around. He was blinded by hatred.

At one time, G-Man was the TV guy. I wonder why they went away from that? Does he not want to do TV? Because if it's an organization decision, they got it wrong. Put G-Man back on TV and Peaches on radio.

Grant has been the TV play-by-play guy since 1988. Gary Gerould has been the radio voice of the Kings since 1985 (both facts according to Wikipedia). I don't remember him ever being part of the TV team for the Kings. You take him off radio coverage and you'll have an incredible mutiny on your hands.

Want to see hatred on display? If you check his Twitter feed, you'll see nothing but venom about Cousins. And, as icing on the cake, he also still holds resentment towards Webber.

He also makes it clear that his radio show is not connected with the Sacramento Kings.

I know Tom Curran was the original TV guy, but I vaguely recall the team experimenting in the early 90's alternating Gerould and Peaches between TV and radio. Perhaps I'm confused, but I swear I remember that happening. It might have been around the time when Tim Roye was involved with pre-game and helping out with game calls on radio.

Regardless, even if they (and G-Man) don't want to mess with the radio gig -- why can't they simulcast like the Dodgers and Lakers have done with Vin Scully and Chick Hearn? Gerould is such a superior broadcaster that it makes total sense, IMO. They aren't maximizing his talent and there aren't many -- especially in NorCal -- that don't love the guy. A trio of G-Man, Jerry and Kayte on simulcast would be very cool.

I don't think many people would disagree. I know of a number of fans who watch the broadcast muted so they can listen to G-Man.

After that last post, I just had to research to find out if my mind was playing tricks on me and I was happy to discover that I was kinda sorta right. The following excerpt was found within a SacBee article dated November 12, 1995:

Glad to know I still have it sometimes. And that my research skills are still on par. ;)
    Can't always trust wikipedia.

Found this too. Remember the days when we didn't get many games televised?? Silly as that seems now, it really wasn't all that long ago.

And Peaches did go to radio during the 95-96 season:

Now that you've done all the research I do have a vague recollection of some of that. ;)

Sometimes your memory can amaze, other times it blends things together and you feel foolish. I was pretty sure I was right, but open to the idea that I blended. Glad to know that wasn't the case.

So back to the idea of getting G-man back on our TV's: While those outside Sacramento may like our current broadcast team (fwiw, I fully subscribe to @Mr. S£im Citrus reasoning for that), how about building a team the local fans actually like? Most everyone loves G-Man. A lot of fans dislike Peaches. And G-man works for NBC and is much more well-regarded. Seems like a no brainer to simulcast. Keep Jerry and Kayte and off we go.

wait, so people that aren't Kings fans like Grant because he likes THEIR team?

Like music, everyone has their opinions and full rights to those opinions. But I submit that if the VAST majority of Kings fans didn't like Grant calling games, he would've been long gone.

The one thing stable with this franchise are the broadcasters. G-Man, Grant, and Jerry all basically have lifetime contracts, and for good reason in my opinion. Grant will be broadcasting games until he's old and frail, or decides to retire.

Say what you want on Grant and ignore the obvious, he's still an ass in his behavior before and after the trade.

Like you said, everyone has their opinions -- but at least admit that your opinion is far from unbiased. And even if you didn't believe what you just said, you know damn well you wouldn't type it in an open forum. You have a conflict of interest and simply couldn't.

While it can't be quantified or proven, it's my opinion that you're flat wrong claiming that the vast majority of Kings fans like him otherwise he'd be gone. I find that to be rather naive. But we're all free to believe what we want.

One thing I think everybody can agree with is that Grant Napear definitely gets people talking. :p

Carmichael Dave is doing the CYA forever regarding Peaches way back to when was teenage fan calling the radio show on KHTK. Dude needs to grow up and start looking, acting, dressing like a near middle age man instead of same 15 year old kid. His reputation has been stellar in heart felt devotion to the team and Sacramento but this constant worship of daddy Napear wore thin long ago, can only damage the reputation.

Dave and Grant are friends. He's loyal to his friend. I don't see anything wrong with that. It's not like Dave has hidden it or anything. Loyalty to a friend won't do any damage to his reputation IMHO.

That was precisely the point I made above. I'd expect nothing less from him. His opinion is very biased. Doesn't mean it's wrong, but most definitely biased. I just happen to strongly disagree. C'est la vie.
  29. VF21

    VF21 #TheFutureIsSkal Staff Member Contributor

I agree that he's biased, but it's a bias he's never denied. I'm no fan of Grant either, but I think Purple Haze was being unfair in calling Dave out for being loyal to his friend.

But, as you said, "C'est la vie."

I'm just in too good of a mood tonight to want to argue with anyone. Watching our young Kings play with so much heart and hustle took away a lot of my angst. I finally passed through the end of the grief process, and "La vie est belle."

It is nice to see something positive, isn't it? I've always blasted people for making snap judgements early on and, with WCS, we're starting to see why that's always a bad thing. Dude is really starting to blossom. He just needs consistency. And now Skal and even Papa G are showing that you can't make judgements too soon. They are still so young and there's lots of time.
