When Jimmer was born 6'2" and relatively (to NBA athletes) slow footed that absolutely told you exactly what he could or could not be as an NBA SG. You can feel free to name all the major NBA guys matching that description.

So that left the PG position. And it turned out, not terribly surprisingly really, that he did not have the handle nor quickness for that.

And so he is what he is. Why people fight so hard against it is a complete mystery. The PG/SG tweener is perhaps the single most common college to pro failure in the league. Every year a new crop come in. In college they are SGs. In the pros they are just too small to continue, so they have to try to shift over. Most cannot. Its not in any way shocking or unlikely. Jimmer might be able to wrangle a career out of the NBA, but it will be as a specialist.
He could be a poor mans jj reddick. Reddick has more size though. It's just a tough spot for jimmer. I don't think he has the talent to be an elite ball handler, which leaves him in no mans land in the nba.

I'd still rather see him struggle than see MT. I don't think he'd be any worse and it'd make some fans really happy.

I don't disagree with a thing you have written. As with every rule though there are exceptions. Jimmer might be an exception. He might be one of the rare players that gets crafty enough to overcome their own physical limitations. I prefer he gets the opportunity to prove/disprove himself as a King. Also if he is the 2013 version of Kerr, Brooks or Eddie House he can play as a King as well as any other team.

I'm tired of the Kings not developing their draft picks. I hope the Kings wring every bit of value out of ALL their picks.

Don't forget Redick himself took some time to find a place in the league.

I'm just rooting for Jimmer to be given a shot, because a) I liked him when we drafted him and b) he's a good guy who deserves a chance more so than washed up vets like the fish. Never complained, worked on his game and has done everything asked of him. Now naturally if I'm rooting for him to be given a shot I'm also somewhat rooting for his success in the league. And I would like that success to benefit the Kings! But wherever it may be, I hope Jimmer gets a legitimate opportunity to show what he can or cannot do.

I don't think there's anything wrong if Jimmer turns into the next Steve Kerr. I seem to recall that guy being a crucial role player on a 5x championship team.

I don't think anyone here (aside from the Jimmer crazies) for him to all of a sudden blow up the league. But I do think he can help improve the spacing for Cousins in the post and actually be a threat to hit an outside shot from IT or GV's penetration

Steve Kerr was able to get lots of minutes becuz he had 3 hall of famer type perimeter defenders to cover his back.

Jimmer has a shot to stay in this league, but not on this team. He deserves a chance elsewhere.

Look, here is the bottom line: Jimmer Fredette will never be a major player in this league. Everybody but his partisans know that.
Marcus Thornton HAS been a major player in this league.

Ben McLemore COULD be a major player in this league.

Throw in a Thornton benching completely eliminating any chance of moving his salary before he becomes an ender, and its pretty obvious why we continue to play guys who we at least have hope could morph into major league players.

None of the above denies the possibility Jimmer could be more effective than either at the moment. Indeed, they have both sucked badly enough that there are probably members of this board who could be more effective at the moment. But if the argument is you are looking to find players long term, to find a core of legitimate NBA starters/major rotation players, well Jimmer isn't, and won't be. Marcus was, and at least theoretically could be again. We flat out need Ben to become one. So Jimmer is as much a victim of the process as anyone else. On a team desperate to win the next game, who knows, maybe we just throw him out there in desperation and hope. On a team trying to find the guys who are going to be part of the future, Jimmer already isn't, so its hardly a surprise the guys who could be are getting their chances to work it out.
I am not a Jimmer partisan but I will still maintain the position that at this point playing him to make sure we're not throwing away something with at least a bit of value makes more sense than watching Thornton. I didn't say anything about Ben, nor would I. I want to see the rook develop.

At this point for me, it's not about him being a major player. It's about him not even being allowed to see the court when we're down two players in the rotation.

It would also supply some interest in what could be a boring season. I want to what he has.

Jimmer hasn't been given an opportunity to play loose and free, because he's always had to worry about being pulled for a mistake due to idiotic coaching. Jimmer plays his best when his mind is at ease, as do most. What do you have to lose? Let the man showcase his skills for once.

Unfortunately for Jimmer, Malone has made it incredibly clear that DEFENSE is of paramount importance. Since Jimmer, bless his heart, would have trouble stopping my 9-year-old granddaughter from driving the lane, he's probably not going to see much playing time.

Hes improved. You're grand daughter is in serious trouble now. You must be from the south, bless your heart.

The odd thing is that when Jimmer played a few games ago, Malone seemed happy with his play and effort on the defensive end. Even made a specific comment about it after the game.

I would have had a hard time believing at that point, after that game, that Jimmer would see no playing time at all in 3 games after that. Strange

lol...GV, MT, and IT are just as bad if not worse defensively. Plus, how would we really know unless he plays.

His lack of defense is greatly overblown. He actually plays pretty good team defense. He gets lost some times and gets beat off the dribble sometimes but almost every guard in the NBA gets beat off the dribble.

The other reason the his lack of defense is overblown is the he is competing ofr minutes with IT and MT. Both of which are at least as bad (I actually think Jimmer is the better defender of the 3) as Jimmer.

While that may have been true in the past, (I'll accept your word for it as I don't watch much college ball), I just cannot think of any time when I've seen much defense from him (granted, the sample size is miniscule). I try to watch him every time he does step on the court and I try to be fair but I do not watch practices. I have to assume that he just isn't able to show enough defensively to make Malone give him minutes.

I will still agree that there is a Jimmer question we may never know the answer to. All the coaches, staff, etc. speak highly of him. I know he's well-liked around town and has an obviously dedicated fan base. As far as I know he's not responsible for the death of the dinosaurs or the ridiculous ending of Dexter. So what is it? No idea...

I have an explanation but it won't be popular so I will keep it to myself.

Yeah, Jimmer doesn't play because he's white. That makes sense. Or is it because he's Mormon? I'm sure Jabari Parker will be sat on the bench next year if he's unlucky enough to be drafted by this racist, anti-mormon franchise... Solid argument there. Can't be that he simply isn't good enough.

Anyway, we're obviously tanking by not playing him.

You get a Like from me for this line :)
Haven't seen the final dexter season yet, but I've heard it was particularly bad. I always do the netflix thing and just power through a whole season all at once. The show slipped seasons ago, but I'm nothing if not loyal. Notice my photo there. That's me in 1985 wearing a kings shirt for a fantastic 80's smiley face/serious face photo.

I didn't say that. In fact I didn't say anything.
