I've been looking at some PTA programs, Physical Therapist Assistant...only two years to complete and you can make a nice salary since the growth in this career field is still rising. Here you can take these courses at a Community College and then you have some private institutions offering these programs as well.

I think that's an excellent first step to meaningful and well paying work. Once you have that degree, you can then always go back to school if you want something more advanced.

B.S. Graphic Design at CSUS. A great fundamentally sound but impacted program, had to be selected to get in (must be even worse now thanks to the over crowding). Current career, graphic designer at a publishing company/media group.

A job not for everyone. Must juggle a few dozen task at once during busy production cycles, reminicent to scooping water out of a sinking paddled boat. Must be able to accept doing something completely over sometimes because someone higher up says so. Mst be able to take critiques sometimes like, "I don't like it" followed by little to no explanation. Must be able to deal with clients who sound like they are four people in one body. Must be fine with sometimes being turned into a voice activated human mouse cursor. Must be okay with being the last group out of the office.

So Ordinary That It's Truly Quite Extraordinary

BS in Business Administration. I've been all over the place career wise, usually chasing stories. So I worked in the bike industry a few years, then traveled the country installing point of sale systems and doing hospitality consulting and then wound up in LA working in visual effects in Hollywood for a while. I hated it there and that's when I moved to Portland, I tried my hand at running my own screen printing shop and then when my son was conceived I went to work in a University setting as a media specialist. I left that job a while back and have been on a sabbatical of sorts but it looks like I might wind up in a similar role in another department at the same school.

Long story short I found out I really like working in academia, especially Education Technology. I've considered going back for a Masters because even though I kill it in my niche I feel a little too nichey at times. If I get rehired at the university there'd be tuition assistance so I'd likely consider that Masters again if it fits into my schedule.
