I agree with you that WCS is better than Sampson. But the fact that WCS vs a G League call up is even an argument is telling.

Willie had a nice string of games before tweaking his back. Hopefully he gets back on track after his sub par showing last night.
What has me scratching my head with Trill is some of his shot attempts, some of his attempts he was using two hands or trying to dunk from far away with zero succession rates. Instead of watching slo-bo operate with those hook shots and pivots, he throws up garbage.

Yeah, it's irksome. He could be a great garbage man, with a developing jumper. But he tries to get too fancy at times.

The one positive you can take from his play is that he doesn't lack confidence or aggression, which is teachable with repetition and lots of empty gym work.

Bogie easily the MVP tonight really slowed Warren who is a excellent scorer every-time he was on him while making timely shots and assisting/hockey assisting. Props to Hill for playing well with whatever is bothering him hopefully he can keep it up. Z-Bo was massive in the last 5 minutes just going berserk on everyone near him.

Would really like to see Temple out of the starting line up if Hill is playing, Temple is basically a less skilled Hill who does similar things just not as well.

PG: Fox or Mason
SG: Hill
SF: Bogie
PF: WCS
C: Z-Bo

WCS has to play with Bogie for the pick n roll he's a completely different player when he can get fed.
I want to be an officer in the Bogie fan club. I just love the guy and I follow his every footstep on the court when I’m there in person.

I know my roll must be slowed, but I don’t know many guys who are as savvy as him - for example if the other team has a fast break with two guys and it’s only Bogie there to try and stop them... it seems like somehow he does sometimes. I can’t point to a film clip... I just see his eyes constantly darting around - taking everything in... like he’s so experienced and smart and strong and aggressive. Definitely want him in my 8 man rotation for the long haul. Probably my favorite King.

He’s just a very good basketballer and I love him.

Temple starting for anybody isn't a good backcourt, but it's a necessity to the head coach so that's what we are forced to deal with in the mean time.
You can say the same thing about Fox and Skal. Temple has been missing his shots lately. I’ll go with Joerger’s rotations.

Don’t want to discourage your input but where did this post come from? You don’t want to “discourage”? Well, I don’t think you did a very good job. “Lousy game last night?” Well, our guys played well when it counted.
I didn' say it was a lousy game. Quite enjoyed it actually. It's just, the new generation of fans (read: young) are used to instant gratification. Look at our current communications. Texting is immediate and people will get upset if you don't respondrightnow. You no longer have to wait for the morning paper to find out what is going on in the world. I just posted that because while I personally love VF21s style to a certain point, a lot of these newer fans coming on board aren't going to be as accepting of her so-called "blind homerism". I appreciate yet don't always have the appetite for it, however I just fear for the response it could bring from the new generation. Pickings are slim from the old die hard regime, there have to be some still around to rile up the base. I just don't want anyone to be discouraged, but I am pretty sure I should just shut the hell up and let it be lol.

I'm fine with Fox starting so long as he isn't put out there to just pass the ball and stand around, if he is, then start Mason with Hill. I don't like Skal starting anyway, a project should not be starting, he should be watching and learning and playing bench minutes until he proves he's worthy to start. Trill has made good strides, he deserves to start IMO.

I saw things that still need improvement but I sure saw things that made me smile. Next step is to see them play so well it takes my breath away. Quite honestly, I don't think it will be that much longer. Our young Kings are learning very rapidly...

IT'S A GREAT NIGHT TO BE A KINGS FAN!!!
For all
I'm with you brother, but maybe we should keep our lin talk outta the celebration threads. They don't want to hear it here! :p

At least Dallas won tonight too!
For those who have concerns about the long term strategic alignment we welcome you to the strategy thread. Let’s not kill VF’s buzz
:D

Of course, you factored in that it was Willie's first game back after a two and a half week layoff, right?

Which Sampson is better than WCS? The Sampson that played 25 minutes against the Bucks with a line of 2-6 shooting, 3 reb, 1 ast, 4 PF, and 4 points. or the one that pulled down 2 rebounds against the Pelicans with 5 PF. There isn't a stat for infectiously energetic, though, so he may have played better than his stats showed.

Sampson had a good game against Cleveland (in 33 minutes, 6 pts on 6 shoots, 16 reb, no ast or blocks, 3 PF) and an okay game against Toronto (in 19 minutes, 11 pts, 4 reb, 3 blks, 0 ast), but he's not a better all around player than WCS. Ask Joerger if you need confirmation.
I don't want to get into a debate of Sampson versus Willie, since we are not likely to see much of LaVarr with his two way contract, but I will say that Sampson has superior rebounding instincts and contagious energy that the team lacks along the frontline. Collecting 10 boards for Sampson is no big thing. For Willie it is a monumental and historic event. And it is easier for Sampson to switch out on the perimeter and play pick and roll defense. He has more of a tenacious attitude and he can defend aggressively without fouling. We were promised this skill set with Willie and we didn't get it. These traits however modest you want to characterize them stick out because our other plodding bigs are incapable of displaying them. These are also premium traits against stretch 4s and small ball and the switching necessary. We have a collection of plodders who rarely rebound outside of their area and are not all that successful defending further than 10 to 15 feet from hoop:
  • Willie (easily pushed around , poor rebounding instincts)
  • Skal (easily pushed around)
  • Koufos (doesn't get pushed around but bad hands)
  • Papa G (doesn't get pushed around but relatively immobile and slow reaction time)
  • Z-Bo (doesn't get pushed around and great hands but can't jump and relatively immobile)
In this context LaVarr (doesn't get pushed around, good rebounding instincts) is a breath of fresh air.

New generation? Certainly there is always a new generation. Look at the Kings 31 year voyage in Sacramento, if the playoffs are your interest then don’t adopt the Kings for future gratification. If you enjoy basketball played in the highest circle - the NBa - then you have your own team in Sacramento. Enjoy.

His name is JaKarr. ;)

Other than that, I pretty much agree with your assessments.

You have me twisted timer. I'm not yet 40 but best believe not only did I grow up with the Kings, I grew up literally with the Kings players from the first years of them in town. You name em, I met them. I watched over his shoulder while Ricky Berry play Tecmo Bowl. Michael Jackson, among others, played pick up ball in my driveway. Im not just diehard, I see Harold Pressleys home everytime I go to visit my parents which is at least a couple times a month. crap I saw his wife on Saturday and exchanged waves.
