[Game] Kings v. Rockets - Wednesday, Oct. 18 - 7 PT

I’ve been most disappointed with Buddy/Skal, as I expect them to be good. And they have not been on the path, in SL and preseason, that this team needs

There are peaks and valleys in any players development. Both of their usages in preseason was pretty low so I think it's hard to expect too much from players that will mostly get you offense. On the bright side, Buddy looked like he was ready to play hard on defense this year, he moved the ball well, and Skal showed more range on his jumper at times.

Rockets beat Warriors.

So if we beat the Rockets, we're automatically the best team in the NBA.

Go hard tomorrow, kids.
Their older dudes might be tired after the down-to-the-wire night (CP3 sat most of the 4th so probably not him though) which means we probably need to use our young legs to our advantage (also Garrett Temple probably defended Harden the best out of any guy in the league last season so there's that).

Really? Buddy made 42.8% of his 3 pointers for the Kings during the regular season last year.
too small of a sample size IMO. Lets see how he does for a full season. Those numbers aren't realistic throughout 82 games, he will come down to Earth. I'm hoping he doesn't fall face first into the ground.

Well unless last year post trade was a fluke I'd have to disagree. The coaching staff needs to focus more on getting him easier shots. Too many times in the preseason did his teammates look for him to create and just stood around as 2-3 defenders hovered over him.
those post trade numbers are a mirage, that won't be a realistic target to stand by as we witness a full season of his shooting percentages.

Rockets weren't shooting the 3 great last night. That means they will drop 30 3s tonite.

In regards to Skal and Bud. Hield is at best a serviceable 2. Skal's ceiling is role player.

My hope is Fox is an All Star within 3 years, Jackson turns into Tashauyn Prince, Klay Thompson, and Giles becomes the next Webber.
Couple that with a Top 5 pick, next year.

To win in this league, we need All Star's. If 2 of this years pick's become that, we're on the right track.

Hield has been doing 3 to 4 hour workouts before games through preseason. Hopefully that explains why his shot has been off. On game days i would expect he cuts back and saves gimself for the games. Maybe this applies to multipe players?

Buddy can make plenty of shots when the bright lights aren't on, but then the game starts and he starts building brick houses
Wow, a lot of negativity and the season hasn't even started. Is this what we can expect from you the next 8 months? This doom and gloom attitude?

Who is to say what is realistic and what isn't when a player is in the process of discovering how good can be?

Who is anyone to put limitations on what a player can achieve after one season in the NBA?

If Buddy shot 43% from 3 pointers over 30 games then it is realistic, because that was the reality, not your diminished expectations.

In Buddy's final season at OSU he shot 67% TS which I believe is an all-time collegiate record. That is off-the-chart efficiency.

There's strong evidence to suggest the guy is a natural shot maker and scorer at a high level. This is not opinion. This is fact.

When he was acquired there was the critics who said he could only shoot spot up from the perimeter. Wrong.

He has already shown he has an in-between game, shooting soft floaters off either foot, and strong ability to drive and finish with his left hand.

He is also tireless in his willingness to move without the ball to get to open spots on the floor. He has counter moves to what the defense does.

He also has perhaps the best work ethic of any player in Kings history, at least Top 5.

So what is the basis of this inherent pessimism? Is there any substance to your opinion besides meaningless preseason games?

Ok.

In his rookie 82 game season, including his games in New Orleans, he shot 39.1% in 3 pointers overall last year. Which is still pretty good. I'm expecting him to be pretty strong long range shooter for us for a long time. ;)

After last night watching Boston vs Cavs and seeing Gordon's injury, I did not want to see basketball for at least few days, but it's the Kings tonight, what can I do, have to watch it.

BOLD PREDICTION.

Play-offs here we come.

Thankfully I was in my kitchen when I heard what happened on the TV. I don't want to see that gruesome injury and have no plans to. Prayers to Hayward for a speedy recovery. Both games last night were entertaining, the second half of the Cavs-Cs and Rockets game was epic.

I said I think Jaylen Brown has all-star potential and in absence of Hayward he is going to increase his usage and development. Jaylen Brown has potential to be a Top 20 player in the league. Tatum picked his spots in the second half when he was ignored out there but I am still NOT a fan of his game. In Game 2, Eric Gordon looked amazing. PJ Tucker was a great pick-up for HOU and their floor spreading schemes. Chris Paul could be out tonight with sore knee. GSW were on pace to score 140 points at half-time but HOU kept playing. They are a tenacious bunch.

I was keeping a close eye on Capella to see what he does that Willie does not. Capella has better intuition where to be on the floor. He is more decisive. He has better timing and balance. He also changes ends more consistently. He is also quicker off his feet than Willie. HOU also only ask Capella just to catch and finish and less initiating their offense from top of the key. It may be necessary to tweak our offense so Willie does NOT have the ball as often at the top of the key. He needs to be primarily finisher a la Capella not an initiator.

I'm hoping the Kings can catch Houston off guard and tired, coming off a big emotional win against GSW last night.

I'm hoping for a big Houston let down game and huge home opener WIN for the Kings! :)

Just don't watch Twitter, ESPN or Fox for the next five days tbh then you will be good.

projecting lineups?

starters:
Hill
Temple
VC
Randolph
Koufos

rotation:
Fox
Buddy
Skal
Willie

Last night, the Rockets played CP3, Harden, Ariza, Anderson and Capela. They had a bench of Gordon, Tucker, Mbah a Moute. I don't think they'll go with an 8man rotation this game after a back to back. I expect to see Demetrius Jackson, Nene, Black, and even Qi getting PT. CP3 is also playing injured. Rockets love to run, but I think we'll try to slow them down with Randolph and Koufos in the beginning. I see us eventually matching up with the Rockets and going smaller.

IMHO Vince Carter does not belong on the floor as a starter or a back-up. His value is as a pseudo coach and mentor not rotational player. I think after the way Eric Gordon went off last night, I would put Temple in the game immediately when Gordon is subbed in. I would also expect Willie to start over Koufos due to speed of the game against the Rockets.

Chris Paul may be OUT this game. He sat out the end of last nights game with a knee bruise.

He is listed as Questionable for tonight's game.

That may or may not be a good thing. Questions abound about that Harden/Paul fit. But it helps that they are on a back to back and it’s a home opener. Should be close. Definitely there. A lot cheaper than last years opening night

so we should all jump for joy because he shot 43% for 30 games? That's enough of a sample for you?

I'm not having a doom and gloom attitude, I am simply pointing out what I've seen from him so far.

I'm not basing his shooting strictly on preseason, I am holding out hope that he isn't a practice shooter like McLemore or Jimmer.

I don't deny that his work ethic is exceptional, but maybe he overdoes it and when it comes to playing in the game, it negates his effectiveness?

Look, I want him to succeed just like any Kings fan does, I just need to see more than a 30 game sample out of him to make further evaluations.

By the way, I hate Harden. I mean hate, hate, hate. Loser, quitter, ball-hogger, me-first player. And I can't stand the beard; I'd like to strap him to a chair and cut it off just with blunt scissors. Without shaving cream.:)
