Papagiannis

sorry if im creating a thread, couldnt find the pre exitinging ones.

Papa looks to be coming along nicely. The main thought here when i see him is this kid is 20 years old. Yes 20 years old. Development is going come slow and steady but ive liked what i have seen from him in the preseason.

He has a great mentor in Vlade and Z-bo with his old style game should really help.

Big body, will be a double double machine for years to come.

Don't agree. He's looked atrocious in all but two games in both summer league and preseason. I can think of a million 19 and 20 years old that are more appealing than he is as a player.

I think a"million" is an overstatement. He has shown improvement and might
be a valuable asset for us. Whether t is a "million" or two, he is the one we chose, he's ours.

He's not very good right now. Even on most of his good nights he still gives up just as much or more than he gives but he's out there hustling and putting in work. He's a long term project so we're just going to have to ride it out and see what happens. He has the tools to become a defensive threat. I've seen him hold is own with guards on the outside. He just needs to learn how to defend without fouling and how to quickly react to cuts.

MOD NOTE: Creating a new thread isn't a problem. It's not like we only have one thread per player. It's actually better to start a new thread instead of bumping old dead ones. :)

25 is an overstatement, if you take into account his draft position.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, and you can all come back later and say how right I was: Papagiannis is a future Gasol level talent, pick your Gasol. I'm not comparing their specific game(s), I'm saying that is the talent level you are looking at in it's very early stages.

He's shown some interesting flashes on offense and defense, but is still very raw, a step slow and will always seem to have some athletic limitations, not matter how much weight he loses and muscle he adds. There's bits I've seen here and there, from screen setting to a jumpshot/hookshot, to passing and shotblocking timing instincts. He's not a good rebounder, won't wow you with an arsenal post moves and will have trouble getting steals due to physical limitations.

I'll be happy with a good backup center who has trade value - I mean, we were all expecting "out of the league in two years" - at best he refines the flashes he's shown into repeatable skills and minimizes his weaknesses (still looks out of shape and a step slow, poor rebounding, turnover/foul prone, can't guard mismatches well).

Adria Gasol?

I think he is much better as a pick and roll big with his size, setting good screens and is a big target. Playing the high post facilitator is doing him no favors right now(Willie as well).

I dig PapaG. I think there's still a place in the league for a big bruising center. And he has that mean streak, which I love.

He's shown flashes and he's still super young. Do I expect him to be Shaq? Hell no. Will he wash out of the league by the end of this season? Also Hell no.

He hasn't shown very much at all besides an intriguing base skill set.

Like some finesse around the rim, setting screens a la Aaron Gray, the potential to nail jumpers from the high post.

But he was drafted as a project, and that's what he is.

All you can ask is every skill improves and his mistakes decline this year. I don't expect much this season. But if we get substantial improvement maybe it will work out down the road.

not a fan of Papa at all. I don't see him in the long term future of this team. If he averages a double double at some point in his career, Vlade would of struck gold. Other than that, I see him out of the league before it's set and done.

He seems overweight and slow to me. He has crummy hands and slow feet.
He needs to lose 40 pounds and play a lot harder. Some of those limitations can be improved, but some can't.

Wait. Positive and optimistic? Are you feeling okay? :p
My expectations are so low for this coming season (I'm pretty confident we'll be bottom 3) that I'm really grasping at anything to keep me interested.

So. ..I'm so negative, I'm positive?!!

Wade Baldwin the number 17 pick last year was waived today by Memphis! They also waived the number 35 pick Rade Zagoric! Talk about whiffing on their draft picks!!!

To put this fail in perspective Draymond Green was the 35th pick the year he came out!

Papa is looking great in comparison.

You know what scares me? That makes sense!
