KINGS! Summer League-Vegas Gm 5 - 7/13/17 (round 2 vs Mavericks)

A lot of disappointment, but if Jackson is ready to be solid at the three it's huge. Hill/Buddy/Jackson can be a watchable perimeter as soon as next year. I don't know if a 40 yr old Vince can just be penciled in

He looked great to me, and I don't think he needs to add much weight either.
Sarcasm? Justin Jackson is extremely skinny with an awkward frame. He definitely needs to add on A LOT of weight if he wants to guard Kawhi, Durant, Butler, etc. He is not going to survive in the NBA with his 200lb frame as a SF. He's very soft.

Man, this Dennis Smith guy is the greatest basketball player since whatever Caruso.
Smith played well, no doubt. But he should play well. SL is taylor made for players like him. Actually, all the top PG's have been playing well. Ball had a 36 pt game and a triple double, Fox looked very good before the ankle issue, and even Frank Mason III had a 20+ pt night.

Smith's athleticism alone will allow him to look special in SL. But I saw lots of things for him to work on. He got trapped several times and was a bit bothered by the length the Kings were putting on him. While he did make some really nice plays against it, he also got trapped a few times, got blocked at least once and had to make some dribble recoveries when defenders were able to poke the ball as he went by (either from the front of from behind). When those defenders are even quicker, better and longer, I think he might have some trouble.

After his 1st scoring spurt in the 1st half, they put Justin Jackson on him and he didn't do much of anything the rest of the half. Then in the 2nd half they had to run him off a double screen to get an open 3 and then the pivot and fadeaway he converted in the lane, while awesome, wasn't an easy shot or something he's gonna convert a very high rate. When you're on, those shots go in. But on a 4-16 night, those will look like awful hero shots. I also don't recall him doing too much while De'Aaron Fox was in the game and the Kings started the game out hot.

That said, the near dunk he had was certainly impressive. He got by Jackson pretty easily and should have had a highlight reel dunk on Montero but just missed it. I'd expect to see quite a few of those plays during the regular season.

Like Smith, Justin Jackson also represented well, as he should. Shot it really well at the start and made some nice drives. I love his versatility and willingness to cover a player like Dennis Smith Jr. He did ok considering. I expect his defense to get better as he develops, but he certainly is willing to put in the effort already.

He has enough to stay in front of them. And let me know of any rookie who can guard any current All NBA team sort of guy.

That's ridiculous.

Kawhi weighs about 230, and Durant is scrawny himself.

10-15 lbs and Jackson will be fine.

In his combine interview, Justin mentioned adding muscle as one of his biggest goals transitioning to the league. Knows he has to guard grown men. Like you said 10-15 pounds and he should be better able to hold his own.

Is anyone else worried about Fox and how frail he is? Can you imagine him going full speed on D, and getting decked by a Gortat screen? That dude needs to put on some muscle asap!
Well Hill did say he plans to help add strength to Fox. Not bulk but more explosive compact muscle. Which was great to hear that's personally a goal of Hill's...

Only caught the highlights but good to see Jackson performing well, looks much more confident and adjusted. Papa and Cooley looked miserable on defense though for the other teams highlights, like the kind that is just lazy/lost looking

Papa looked okay. I don't see how you can decide he's lazy/lost by looking at the other team's highlights. ;)

I mean slow reactions or getting backdoor is usually a sign of that. I wouldn't say he's lazy, I meant that's how it appears because he has slow reaction times yet.

Justin Jackson the next Tayshaun Prince?

Idk, but if everything pans out perfectly with the rookies, I really like our lineup right now. It's really not that bad if any of these rookies show big time.

Who knows if Giles randomly pans out to? Wouldn't that be something.
