KINGS! Summer League-Vegas Gm 2 - 7/9/17

It really is just summer league.
Guys who tear it up in the summer league often go on to do nothing during the regular season.
I agree a lot of times guys tear it up and don't do anything in the NBA but I would still rather see my guys have some success. I get guys are working on certain things but so aren't all the players on all the other teams. Summer league has changed, coaches are coaching to win and players are playing hard trying to get W's. The future of the Kings is on this summer league roster, we have guys who are going to be playing real big time NBA minutes this season playing on this team. Not seeing them play well against scrubs is concerning. Kings were supposed to be one of the best teams in Vegas, seeing them struggle makes me nervous

Because the coaches are using Summer League as a development environment where they are getting players to work on their weaknesses and try and implement then in a game situation.

Why is Buddy handling the ball so much? Why aren't we seeing a lot of pick and roll or pick and pop action with Skal and Fox? Coach March said they wanted to see Fox run some plays that they want him to run, hence why there was not much pick and roll action with Skal (in game 1). I am really not concerned with not "playing to win at all costs" as they are picking spots in how they continue to develop these players before the season starts.
I guess I would prefer that they use the time to work on actual sets seeing how many young and new players we have. Once the foundation is built by all means experiment. Maybe the way to look at it is that they're still figuring out what the guys can and cannot do in order to determine the actual action to run in the season.

To be fair, most of the actually season shouldn't have much higher stakes than summer league.

But it's still just summer league. All that talk and hype behind it is just to get viewers, it's entirely for development.

They all know nothing matters in the W column until game 1 regular season. I'm not trying to make more excuses, but some players play better under the actual lights and harder competition, it brings out their best so to speak, the same guys who can stink it up all pre season. See it all the time.

I know our expectations are a bit higher due to the fact that we have five rookies on the roster but let's be realistic. You can't just toss five players out there who have never played with one another and expect all sorts of results, I know this is a scrimmage game so there are no offensive sets and they have no guidance at the moment other than the coaching staff. Another thing we won't see is all five of these players playing together in the regular season so it's all moot anyway. Team chemistry is crucial and these guys just don't have it right now and that will come with time and repetition.

We can either feel optimistic or pessimistic about the performances and results at SL. As a passionate fan base I feel we deserve better than we've gotten at SL over the last stretch of years. Yes, I don't want to feel worse about the young core in the middle of summer, but better

Or you can feel somewhere in between, realizing it's summer league and even a championship (which we had a few years ago) doesn't mean squat come day one of the real season.

Bruhs SL isn't worth nothing. It's not always the best indicator but sometimes gems or deficiencies are revealed or even dare I say habits can be formed.

Lets not forget the story of Jeremy Lin, and him balling all over #1 pick John Wall and hitting the game-winner, getting himself an NBA contract over it.. Now that the dust has settled long ago, we can conclusively say there was SOMETHING to this particular performance.
