Free Agency Open Thread (NBA and Kings!)

Washington doesn't want to give Porter a max deal. Saying they will match any offer is just an attempt to scare away teams in my opinion. Then they will probably match anyways, but sure they are hoping to re-sign him for cheaper.
Otherwise I don't understand why they let him talk to other teams, if they think he's a max player and part of their future. We should just offer the max, and see what they do in Washington.
Saying they will match can be an attempt to extract value out of other pursuant teams

Why don't offer the max to both Porter and Bogdanovic (four years the first, two the second). Wizards cannot match both of them, at the same time they jus cannot afford to lose both of them. Does it make any sense?
You're talking about throwing around money; I dont think it makes sense.
Maximum contracts ought to be reserved for the franchise player on each team; I like the way Porter looks and has been improving, but I don't know if he's ready to lead a young team, so I its premature. I'd rather just stick with Justin Jackson. Porter might be worth going after. Maybe the Kings management feel differently, and they do sign Porter - its not without risk though. Kings are going to look pretty stupid if they do sign Porter for a huge contract, and Jackson turns into the better player.

maybe we don't want to offer max money for bojan.
Yes, I agree. I meant just to put Washington under pressure, let's say a big offer even if not the max. Just to be sure they won't match both of them and spend three days without panic. Because if you sign Porter then for three days you cannot look for other options with those money freezed.

You may well be right on that. They may have no intention in giving Porter a Max contract, but they're not going to let him walk. This way they can force the sign and trade and bring back some value. I think an awful lot of people would consider Max too much money for Porter, but it's a luxury the Kings can afford provided they or not giving up Talent to bring him in.

I hope the Wizards value Oubre.. I mean think he can fill some shoes.

I think us going after Otto now might mean all of our initial targets are off the board, hence why it wasn't our initial approach

I'm ready to bet Porter is our target #1, #2 and #3 if he's available.

One good thing, in any case, is that I don't think 12 months ago we could even talk to a FA of the caliber of Otto Porter.

In theory you are right. But Porter is pretty much this years Harrison Barnes. Teams will bet on his improvement, when given a bigger role on offense. The good thing is, that both Porter and Barnes are good defenders. So even, if the player doesn't improve as hoped on offense, he will still be a mid tier offensive player but a really good defender. A max contract would be an overpay in this case, but it would be not a desastrous contract, like Asik for example.

I think going after Porter is the right thing to do. It might come back to bite us, but sometimes you have to take risks and bet on players you believe in. Porter is versatile, plays good D, can shoot and can attack the basket. Maybe not a guy you built an offense around, but in todays league he is a valuable asset even on his current production level.

They're obviously going to match any offer on Porter.. HE was way too good to let walk for no return and only reinforced that in this years playoffs.

Gallinari meets with the Clippers today. If they're out of the Millsap sweepstakes I hope thats where they go.

I can't believe people are talking about throwing that much $$$ to Bojan.. Gallinari is so much better, Bojan is a traffic cone on defense.

I'd like to see Dion Waiters on the squd if the price is right. He's better than McLemore.
There's no room for Waiters on this squad. We have Fox, Buddy, Richardson, and Bogdanovic? I don't know how we'd fit all of them together. Even off the bench, we'd still have Bogdanovic and Richardson who wouldn't fair well with a ball-dominant scorer(chucker) like Waiters. With the starters, there's no way you can play him with Fox. He improved his 3pt%, but I think it's a fluke.

Too many SGs on the roster to be taking a risk with Waiters.

I think I wasn't clear enough. Of course Bojan doesn't deserve a max contract, I was thinking about making two big offers for both of them in order to sign the offer sheet with both of them. Then let's wait the Wizards match one of the two offers. We can instead sign one of the two, then wait for the Wizards to match in three days time, hoping the other targets are still available.

I wouldn't put out two offer sheets unless we simultaneously wanted both players (I don't think we do). Just in case. Sure, the Wiz can't plausibly match both. But if they weren't going to match Porter in the first place, they might stick us with both of them, just out of spite.

I am confident the Wizards just signed Meeks with expectation they won't be able to retain Bogdanovic. Meeks is the shooter to replace the shooter they are to lose. The Wizards are maneuvering to fit Otto without going into luxury. They were around 90M in salary before Meeks. The luxury kicks in at 119M. So with 7M to Meeks and 20-25M as starting salary to Otto, that takes them up to the tax. I do like that Vivek was at the meeting. It shows the team is serious about potentially shelling out 100M+. They will only proceed if they feel they have a legitimate chance at him. No one wants to be a pawn.

Yep, Meeks in Bogdan out. Porters not going anywhere unfortunately... Writing is on the wall.

If wizards don't want to re-sign Porter to the max, they may be willing to do a sign and trade for some cheaper assets.

Maybe we send them Garrett temple or Kosta Koufos and malichi Richardson for Otto porter at max money.

With heild, bogdan, Richardson, and temple. Waiters would be a redundant target unless you trade away. Which means you are giving up on the rebuild before it starts
I think thats a bit dramatic and overstated. Waiters shot 40% from 3, he plays solid defense and is explosive and slippery getting to the rack.

Can confirm #Wizards have come to terms with Jodie Meeks via bi annual exception. 2yrs $7M

They can go after him, but a max contract is too much to chew I think. I think there's a fair chance in 3 years, at least 1 or 2 of the Kings young players will be more valuable than Porter, and that includes Jackson. I'd save cap-space for re-signing one of the many question-mark players they now have. I don't think any rational Kings fan expects the Kings to make the Playoffs this year, although there is a small chance that players mesh well, and they could surprise. Come into the season with a huge rotation, and let the young guys (that's pretty much everyone besides Temple, Koufos, and possibly Collison/Lawson if resigning) earn their minutes in support of one another.
I would be very disappointed if Joerger restricts his rotation to 8-9 players.
