Las Vegas Summer League 2017

Our summer league roster has been announced.
You can see the whole list here: http://www.nba.com/kings/news/kings-announce-2017-nba-summer-league-roster
Among the most kown names other than our rookies are Jakarr Sampson, Dominique Hawkins, Jack Cooley, Scootie Randall, Naz Mitrou-Long and a few others.

Love the Sampson invite. 6'8" SF/PF with a 6'11" wingspan that defends and does the dirty work. Exactly the type of player that the core is lacking. Still only 24 years old. Can't shoot though. If he can find his shot we might have a steal there.

Yeah, that's a great invite. No risk and the type of possible diamond in the rough the Kings should be trying to unearth.

Wow this really got swept under the carpet then because I've been under the impression that he was still under contract with us. So we basically just threw our 2nd round pick away last year?? This is an underrated "bad" move by this front office, if so. I mean, I Cousins wasn't going to be a starter in the league but I've watched enough of him and he has the size to be a role player. This seems dumb to me.

He was the second to last pick in the draft and we didn't have a roster spot for him. Teams do this every single year. It won't happen much this year with the expanded roster and the new D league contracts but in previous years this was the norm.

Don't make this out to be bigger than it is. Cousins was a nice player, but to be honest, there are a lot of players out there just like him. He was a 2nd round pick in a weak draft. He played on our D-League team all last season and never once got called up. The Kings decided that he wasn't worth wasting a roster spot on. Take a look at last years roster and you tell me who you would have cut in order for the Kings to sign Cousins? None of this was a secret. You just need to pay closer attention.

By the way, Cousins wasn't a natrual PG. He played SG prior to his last year in college. Unfortunately they had another player on the team named Buddy Hield at that position. So to get both on the floor at the same time, they moved Cousins to PG. And he did a decent job. But in my opinion, his best position is SG, and the Kings already had 20 or 30 of them on the roster.

I understand all that, I followed his D-League season from afar. I just wasn't aware he didn't officially have a contract with us is all. I agree that he probably wasn't anything special but to me that just seems wasteful when we're in total rebuild mode.

You asked who I would have cut from the active roster to make room for him? I would say both Tyreke and Galloway. Niether were going to be here long term, obviously, so why not get I Cousins a look for a month at the end of the season?

The teams starting lineup in SL may be the starting lineup in 4 years, so I hope to see them making a SL title run like that McCallum team

Cousins best shot as a pro is as a backup PG or combo guy.....like Galloway. It's why he played PG in G League.

Jack Cooley !! Don't be surprised if he leads the team in rebounds.

Glad to see Luis Montero on the squad too. He's had a one-of-a-kind route to the NBA, interesting blend of size and skill too, I hope he shoots the lights out.

The team wasn't in full rebuild mode when he was cut.

At that time they would have had to cut one of:

Cousins/Koufos/Papagiannis
Cauley-Stein/Labissiere/Tolliver
Gay/Barnes/Casspi
McLemore/Afflalo/Richardson
Collison/Lawson/Temple

all of whom had guaranteed contracts

Cousins is still unsigned as far as I know. If he looks great in SL you could sign him but I don't think that you want all your PGs to all be guys with no NBA experience in Fox/Mason/Cousins.
