The Official Draft Day thread

Plus with Ball to the Lakers I can actively root for his dad to become a world class headache to his son's franchise.
Lavar makes me nervous.

He's one of those guys who says unbelievable things, then just like that poof...

He called the Lakers before the lotto.

I tell you what if they make the playoffs like his dad said...which seems absolutely ridiculous.

Woe to those who doubt the man.

I aint messing with him if it happens.

Overall very happy with our draft. Next year we can develop our youth individually, as well as laying the foundations of Joergers playstyle with the team as a whole.

I can't stress enough how much I like the fact we have around 10 players who will grow as a unit from the jump. Having so many promising pieces of clay to mold into a powerful basketball golem is awesome.

remember what joerger was able to do his last year in memphis with a bunch of d-leaguers while half his team was injured? gives me a lot of hope what he can do with a bunch of first round picks added to our young core

Kings are throwing the youngin's to the Wolves, well not those Wolves, but you know the how the saying goes....
Think this is where picking JJ and Mason will help. They have several years of college experience, and will be different from the typical freshmen rookies who dominate the top of the draft class these days. While their ceiling might be lower, they can contribute almost right away, which will be sorely needed on such a young roster.

Fox, Justin Jackson, Giles and Mason. I'd say that's a pretty good quartet to come out of the draft with. Be interesting to see what happens in free agency now to supplement these additions to what we already have on this roster.

Overall all, I'm very excited coming out of this draft.
Couple of feelings I have after sleeping on it:
  • I like the picks a lot better when I think of them collectively. Individually I could say yeah Jackson okay but more of a role player (seems like a casspi type player to me). Harry Giles knees, very scary. Frank Mason, undersized. But when you step back, you realise it makes sense. Jackson is a safer pick at a position of need and allows us to swing for the fences on a guy like Giles. Frank Mason rounds out our PG platoon for the future with Fox and again filled a position of need.
  • All the guys we picked are reportedly high character, team oriented types and that goes along with this 'culture change' which until now I scoffed at.
  • Summer league is going to be so much fun.

My only disappointment is taking Mason over Evans....I think Evans has greater potential, and looked the better PG - Mason looks a better scorer, but that's not the position. If Evans was already picked, no problem, but it stunk for me that he was there. And now Evans is under the player he reminds me of and might aspire to be like too. It's a lesser concern because they picked up Fox, whom if he makes it close to Conley's level, will be a home-run for the Kings.

Kings young talent after tonight:

PG: Fox, Mason
SG: Hield, Bogdanovic, Richardson
SF: Jackson,
PF: Skal, Giles
C: WCS, PapaG
That really excites me! That looks like a solid team. As mad as I was about the Demarcus trade, I have to believe Vlade Divac saw the Golden State Warriors and knew the rebuild had to the start now. So far, I believe he has hit on every single draft pick and that is incredibly hard to do.

I will admit that I think he took some chances in this draft but if Bogdan Bogdanovic comes over, it would cancel out one of these players potentially failing.

Part of my hope now with so many quality SG's is that Malachi Richardson with his 6'6.5" height and 7'0" wingspan can guard threes. If he can play some backup three at least defensively to give Jackson a breather and to get Malachi on the floor that would be excellent. My only trepidation with that is many teams are now trotting out threes that are 6'9" and 6'10". Maybe Vlade Divac truly thinks he can score a guy like Otto Porter in free agency.

Regardless the future is incredibly bright in Sacramento. If Dave Joerger is willing to turn the horses loose we can play that breakneck speed that Vivec has always wanted to play.

I love me some Frank Mason. That's a real, real competitor. Nice haul today, excited for free agency and to see these young guns at Golden One next season.

I am so glad we didn't overpay for mediocre vets last offseason! Say what you want about the Afflalo, Tolliver signings, but at least we didn't sign Mahinmi to 14per, or Crabbe, or Evan Turner.... phew.

I kind of like Crabbe (even though overpaid)....the whole NBA salary situation is outlandish. I don't think Tolliver was a bad signing at all.

My guys were Issac and Mitchell. I think we regret not picking Mitchell the most that guy can shoot and defend (do a little bit of everything) with his 6'10 wingspan and also fit the high character mold. All in all I think this draft could have gone much worse and at the very least we will have an interesting team to watch next year, even if we lose 60+ games. The key now will be building a legitimate PROGRAM with continuity along with trusting the process get these right body and skill wise, make sure they are gym rats year round no more coming in to the season out of shape or like in cousins case getting fat as the year went on.

Also, IMO, no need to fire anybody for at least 5 years I don't care what Vlade said about his two year promise this team is realistically more than 2 years away and what we need the most is stability. We did alot last night to improve our reputation and I hope things continue down that path.

The joke on twitter last night was that we were going to be the superteam of summer league.....Hopefully that can eventually translate to the real league. Shooting, Speed, Passing dominate todays NBA and we finally have some pieces that fit that mold, exciting times ahead!

What. A. Day.

Just watched the Vlade Periscope interview; nothing that he said really stood out.

But what did was just his look and general demeanor. He looked GREAT. After trading DMC he looked beat down, tired, and defeated. He was bright eyed and happy tonight. It was a great to see him like that. :)
Accolades are a powerful thing. After last years draft and the Cousins trade almost everyone had something negative to say about Vlade. Fans, local media, national media, etc. Unless you're Lebron James, that much negativity is going to affect you in some way. After this draft the general consensus in the basketball world is that Vlade f*****g nailed it. The amount of pressure off his shoulders and the knowledge that he did right by Sacramento probably feels amazing.

To be fair, everyone was effing wrong about last year's draft as well. The verdict's still out on the Boogie trade but at least Vlade got us more in return than the Bulls got for Butler (HOLY CRAP, WHAT A HORRIBLE TRADE) and the Vladfather and the team around him have already shown quite the ability to turn one or two draft picks into a party basket of assorted goodies and lotto tickets.

My first post draft post. Haven't read any of above posts. Warched it on TV. In my view it could not have gone any better and that goes for all 4. Looking forward to learning more and more about each of our draftees. Also looking forward to the signing of three or four vets which are necessary to give our kindergarten and first grade classes a little spine in their development and our competitiveness this coming season.

Fox was my pick all throughout the process, perfect fit for us I don't care if he can't shoot. Can drive at will, PnR with our bigs, dish out to our SGs, elite speed for transition, and great length for defense.

Jackson I'm iffy on, Giles looks like a steal, Mason was a great pick for back up pg
