[Matt Dery] Sacramento showing big interest in Drummond

#33
I'd do that quickly. DET has gotta be looking to extract more value than that tho, unless they've got their heart set on a player at #10 they know won't be on the board at #12..

Drummond can really run, he'd be a good match with Fox, just gotta fill in shooters at SG thru PF, and they've certainly got that covered at the SG spot with Buddy.
It wouldn't be the worst trade (that happened around the last all-star break ;)). Then draft Donovan or OG at #12? As I said in the other thread we have up to 57M in cap space. The net of this trade would be 16M against our cap (24-8). This would leave us with almost 40M to address our SF need, i.e. sign Otto. The question the front office would have to ask is what do you do with Papa G, Willie, Skal and Drummond? Can you play all these guys? I don't think so. You need 1-2 of your bigs to be able to play away from the basket, to space the floor in today's NBA. This was the basis of my post on Zach Collins. There is NO reason to take Collins if he does not have the mobility to play away from the basket. Among our current bigs only Skal is remotely comfortable away from the basket. Trading for Drummond would spell the end of Papa G. I heard he lost 20 pounds after the end of the season. I don't want to give up on Papa G already.

I am a bit conflicted on this one. Drummond can be a dominant offensive rebounder, rim runner and lob target. He's a pretty incredible athlete who has developed half hook from 3-5 feet. If the Pistons want to get out from under his contract I am at least listening.

I don't like this, but if it goes down I guess I'll hope for the best. If we're interested, it means Joerger thinks he can work with him.

I had no idea he was just 23. His regression after the big paycheck is worrying, but he can still improve beyond being a rich man's Reggie Evans.

This would surpass the Cousins trade for me in level of anger. The salary he is chewing up will never allow a team to be a winner with his skill set. If we were the cost of Koufos, maybe.

If we move Koufos and Affalo it only chews up 16M next year when we have 57M of space. That still leaves up 40M to spend. I am not necessarily advocating for the trade just saying it is not like our cap space would disappear entirely. We'd still have space for a max player or spread out among multiple free agents or trade acquisitions.

There are still 3 more years at almost 30MM. EFFFF that noise in A.

I mean if you want to bring in Drummond to replace Koufos that wouldn't be the worst thing in the world. He is what he is right now, use him to gobble up rebounds and hope that with a new scenery comes some new life and inspiration to grow his game. That said, It would be a 12 for 10 swap and if the Kings feel they can still get their player at 12, it would be something to consider.

Koufos is an $8M bridge to either WCS or Papagiannis starting after this season. Drummond is a $76M (or $104M if he picks up the option) investment in a starting center.

Papa is not ready to start, or get big minutes IMO. Willie will hold down the center spot with Drummond
He's not ready for big minutes but this is the year to develop him. With no pick in 2019, we need a good pick in 18. Might as well let Papa learn on the job this year when wins won't matter that way he can be a more productive player the next year when wins do matter.

Maybe. I think I'm just more willing to gamble on Papagiannis becoming a solid backup or more on a rookie deal than gambling on Drummond being a high level starter on a 4 year/$104M deal. He looked pretty bad to me in the games I saw this season.
I think a change of scenery would do him good. Now that being said, I'm not necessarily condoning the Kings trading for him and his huge contract, I simply want to point out it wouldn't be as bad as we make it out to be.

I don't ever want to gamble on a guy who regressed after signing a big contract.

It's always been a question of how much passion for basketball Drummond has. I'd rather see that question answered from afar.

You put a lot to faith in WCS and Papa. Papi is Still D league as far as I am concerned. He will get owned by 90 percent of the centers in the NBA right now. Without a doubt. WCS has only show flashes of being decent. None of them against good or elite competition. When either or shows up nightly and plays the oppositions bigs at a high level, then I'll believe. I have certainly not seen it yet.
Are you a Kings fan? Who do you like on the team?
