The art and agony of the tank (split from game thread)

I remember wanting to destroy my computer watching Kap drive for the TD and then the 2 point conversion, FOR THE WIN! HAHAHAHAHA

Chip and Kap were giving the FO the middle finger with that one. They knew they were gone and they were gonna take Myles Garrett with them.

It's too small to worry about. We're just quibbling over a couple spots in the lottery at this point. Most likely we get two top 10 picks regardless, they're just both going to be closer to 10 than top 5. Which isn't bad this year. It's just not... ideal.
Stop being so logical and nice hrdboild. We need maximum probability for the best probable outcome.

I'm with you :) I just Zen'ed out over the weekend and accepted that maybe I'm not meant to live in a world where the Kings draft the two best players in the draft, win the lotto next year, and make the rest of the league forget all about Golden State when we go 82-0 in 2019. That wouldn't be fun would it? We'd have nothing to ***** about after that.

So you fell asleep and the creature from the pod in the basement took over? Welcome, friend.

Tonight was a huge woss. Two of our remaining games are against teams that are better tankers than us (Lakers/Suns) and the other two will most likely be resting players for the playoffs (Rockets/Clippers). So it is very possible we could win 2-3 games, jumping the T-Wolves AND maybe the Mavs.

Kings are going 3-1 or 2-2 and likely will pick 8/9/10 on their own.....it was too much to hope for a few more losses - <sigh>, ah well. Thank you Pizza Guy. Interesting thing, the Pelicans now eliminated, could tank worse than the Kings....so the Pels pick could end up being the better pick at the end of the season anyway. Either way wins against T-Wolves/Mavericks very much improve the odds of the Kings own pick being 8,9, or 10.

Wonder if the Celtics would take say the 8 and 10 along with maybe both 2nd rounders for Fultz? I doubt it, but who knows. Could the lottery balls be kind for a change? Lottery this year will be a bigger deal than most offseasons for the Kings. I hope the Kings do not decide on trying to take 2 PGs or 1 PG and Monk. Monk doesn't impress as much, and would rather they don't pick him up with Hield already starting. I'd like Bridges either way....but have a feeling it'll might be Markkenen which might be interesting also. Perhaps the Kings stay with Collison/Lawson and go with both Bridges/Markkenen? That would be interesting too....many possibilities.

Whats shaping up nicely is that Philli now has the 5th worst record and that could easily hold up. So even if we do jump into the top 3 that pick wont be worse than 5 maybe 6. The Pels pick assuming they don't jump is close to 10.

We will get some good talent, just hope one of them is a PG.

Why would the pelicans tank?

All the tanking talk is tiring. I'm just sayin.
I've always been on board (since the DMC trade) with the youth development movement. And Joerger has progressed on that front (after a bit of a slow start). I really like the talent we're developing. But at this point to be on a winning streak is annoying. Just sayin.

If we jump and Philly has the 5th worst record, they can't have the 5th pick... At least it will be the 6th. But I agree with your point, actually right now we need to hope to get into the top 3 and swap with Philly. It will be better than our actual pick anyways.

Is it ever ideal for the Kings though?

kings are so pathetic....win a meaningless game vs. T-Wolves that will come back and bite us as in the ass.

If we and Minnesota both lose out, then there's going to be a coin toss. for 7th and 8th.

Being a fan of this laughable organization continues to be difficult.

There was no way we could lose last night with whatever garbage the Mavs put out there, they were blatantly tanking by not running sets, benching all of the starters at the end, I would really not be surprised if they were specifically told to not make a basket. I dont blame last night on Joerger there was no way to top Carlisle.

But all of the other stupid wins with our washed up "gritty" vets do bother me. Those were pointless! The second Cuz was traded and no one wanted our junk at the deadline we should have bought out and released all of the pending free agents and "rested" Koufus Temple Tolliver(Like the suns/lakers/sixers have done). Call up some D-leaguers, sign guys off the street and even rest our rookies at times.

Thats the problem with this organization, no plan, no single voice, no direction. Joerger is out here trying to win while Vlade is trying to lose. Why wait until last night and shut guys down? To keep guys who wont be here happy? KANGZZZZZ

We really cant do anything right. Sigh. You would figure as perenial losers we could figure out how to lose properly but as always we are behind the 8 ball. #InVladeWeTrust

Look, I think the worst thing that can happen to Kings is to lose their pick and for NO to jump into top 3. Both mathematically possible.

While you want to be able to pick as early as possible in the draft, I think it is imperative that these youngsters playing now learn to compete and win a few games as a reward for that never give up attitude that they are developing. The only way you are ever going to change a losing culture is to firstly learn how to compete every single minute you are on the floor regardless of whether you are down 30 or up 30. Then once you learn how to compete, you start learning how to win.

I think coach Joerger has been doing a phenomenal job of developing this culture. That is probably not going to get the tanking contingent a great deal of comfort because in April teams are either getting ready for the play offs and managing their players or are tanking while the Kings are developing the culture of playing hard all the time which will lead to wins. These sort of wins will not be there in January or February.

I am very happy with what coach has been preaching and how he has been developing the Kings. Unfortunately, this is the Kings we are talking about so watch him get fired next year or the year after once Vivek loses patience and Hinkie is on board who is all about tanking and being really crap. That philosophy does not align all too well with Joerger and his coaching staff who are about competing and winning and letting the rest of the chips fall where they fall.

That is why is Vivek is looking to bring in someone above Vlade, I hope that it is not Hinkie because IMHO, that will spell the end of coach Joerger in Sacramento. If he really wants to bring in someone, I hope its someone like Jason Levin (sp???) who has history with Joerger in Memphis (I think he hired him to be a coach in Memphis). That way Kings can salvage something positive out of this circus.

Sounds about right. As disheartening as giving up a top 3 pick would be, a swap with Philli would currently get us a higher pick than we would otherwise get. So keep losing Philli. I was a bit concerned for awhile as they were finding a way to win. Philli could end up with the Laker pick as well, though I doubt the basketball gods will allow that to happen, but if they do Hinkie will look like a genius. I'm not advocating for bringing in Hinkie.

Kings could easily win 3 out of next 4, possibly winning the 9th slot. Unless the Clipps want revenge in the last game, I could see the Clipps resting every starter just prior to the playoffs.

The Mavs did a fantastic tank job in this game.
With as tight as the Clips race for home court advantage is with the Jazz, chance is its a must win game for the Clips vs Kings.

I like your post and agree about Joerger, the positives of winning and culture for our youth, great bunch of young guys that seem to enjoy playing together. I also don't believe in the Hinkie philosophy and if someone does go above Vlade maybe Levin is a good choice, I don't know.
Some of us do get caught up in the winning or losing down the stretch but for me anyhow I don't think myself part of a tanking contingent. It's whats happening with the bottom dwellers and its very obvious in this talented draft. After 12 years of no playoffs I think many of us just want these picks to be as good as possible to hopefully get out of this miserable lottery position that we have been in for so long.
I believe we are on the up, hopefully by 2019 that pick Vlade gave up will be a so what its in the twenties anyway. Let some other fans get worked up about the art of tanking.
