Otto Porter

Otto Porter sure would look good in a Kings uniform next year. He's still only 24 I think and getting better every year on both ends of the floor. If I were Vlade I'd be pushing hard for him in FA. At this point i figure even when Rudy comes back mid year, we try to trade him to a contending team for a late 2019 1st (to replace the 76er pick). That way this draft if we luck out and get one of Tatum or Isaac we're set for years.

MOD NOTE: I've seen Porter's name mentioned before so I moved this post into a new thread to continue the discussion.

Otto Porter Jr. would be very good and I would not hesitate for a second to drop a max deal at him. He still has score for improvement in his own game, has improved in each of his 4 seasons in the NBA. He would be a perfect young veteran to get onto the team. Still young enough to grow with the team and be a core piece when/if the team starts being good again.

Having said that, there will be at least 2-3 other teams that would happily offer him the same contract and they might actually be more attractive to him as opposed to a laughing stock franchise that are professional sabotaging themselves. I this there is VERY little hope that even if Washington were not going to match the offers (which I think they will) that Porter would chose Kings over other 2-3 teams that would offer him the same amount of money.

One possible positive working for the Kings might be Garrett Temple. If Temple truly loves it here and believes that the franchise is on the right path (still to be determined) then he might be able to clarify a few things to Otto so that he is not making his decisions off perceptions. Still its a tough sell to leave a play off team to go to a rebuilding team when the money will be the same, possibly more and you are a Georgetown kid playing for Washington in the NBA.

I just can't see this being a realistic action to be honest. Odds are stacked well and truly against the Kings here.

Unfortunately I think I agree with you regarding our chances of aquiring him however the Temple relationship like you said, might help.

Has Porter said he wasn't going anywhere? It's been reported that Washington doesn't have the cap room to resign him as a restricted FA. What changed?
They have Bird Rights, so they don't need cap room to resign him. I think what has been reported is that a max contract would be pretty painful for them to swallow. Doesn't mean they can't or won't, but some have suggested they might not match a max offer.

I'm no Sam Hinkie ;) as far as the cba goes but as I understand it they are over the cap and would need to shed salary to sign their guys without going deep into the luxury tax. That's where we come in:D.

If they don't others will offer it. There is a lot of money in FA and he is a choice FA

He is out of our league.
