The Kings currently have no point guards signed for next year, except Langston Galloway, who at best would be your back up point guard.

If all goes to plan, the Kings will have 2 Lottery Picks in the upcoming draft, that is deep draft for Point Guards. Assuming we draft a point guard of the future, he will take at least a year or two to really be ready to start.

Which one of our current Kings point guards would you want the Kings to re-sign, why, and how much money do you think it will take to resign them?

Can't Ty do better than us tho??? That's a concern to me. I like him, but does he like us?
Not that many openings for starting point guards in the League. We may need to overpay though, considering Afflalo got 12 mil from us last year.

He would certainly be our starting point guard for at least next year, unless we get the 2nd or 3rd pick and draft one of the top 2 point guards.

Afflalo essentially got $13-ish million for one year, though, so I wouldn't take his $12 million figure as a per-year basis for Lawson on a multiple-year deal.

I think Ty should only command about 4/5 a year given the over abundance of PGs and his still relatively low profile (playing for Kings, past transgressions)

I voted 'none' since none of them plays any role in the Kings future.
Now, if price is right and contract is short, would not mind any of them to come back to fill up the roster space.

Given that therer was market for him and the Kings kept him, can't help but feel that thay would like to keep Collison.

Either way, Kings need a veteran PG while the drafted PG develops. Ideally, whoever the veteran PG, he should be able to play with the newly drafted PG.

Given that he can play off the ball as a bit of a SG, I think Collison will get the nod.

Voted none. I do love what Ty has brought to the table this year. But, I don't think he would be happy on a re-building team full of kids. I do think we need some very professional vet PG to come, but I think next year is a major tank job.

From Jason Jones' recap of the Jazz game in the Bee, another exhibit as to why I think it would be worth keeping Ty around for another year or two at a reasonable price:

“After that first game, he was getting a lot of easy buckets, and for the next two or three, he started doing things like coming down and dribbling, getting the ball at the top of the key and trying to get to the basket,” guard Ty Lawson said. “I was like, ‘Just make it simple. You’re going to get easy layup opportunities right there. Just work on that, and we’ll expand later.’ He’s been playing well.”
He seems willing and able to take on a mentoring role to help develop the kids. I like that.

None. If I had to choose one it would be Lawson.

When it comes to the entire team really the only guy I want back next year is Turner because of his leadership and defensive ability.

Ty Lawson. He is older and will provide a good transition for our young players. If we are going for playoffs I get both Lawson and Collison. It is unfortunate that I like Collison a lot though.

I think it should be Ty and we should front load his contract. 2 year deal with a team option for a 3rd. Not sure what the rules are regarding the front loading but if we could do 12MM year 1, 8 MM year 2 and T/O for 7-8MM year 3 that would be great because we are going to struggle to meet salary floor this next year.

I said Lawson, but the reality is that if the Kings get a PG in the draft it will depend on who that PG is. Also depends on the salary demands of Collison and Lawson though both seem open to returning which is nice. Both are borderline starters but very solid backup PGs.

The issue with Tyreke Evans is that he has never truly found what his best position is. He's played point guard, shooting guard, and small forward. Now that's a bonus and a reason why I would bring him back on a team friendly contract. Utility players like him and Garrett Temple are very useful on a team because they can cover multiple positions and give the coach a number of line up options. That said, I wouldn't re-sign Tyreke to be our starting point guard, nor would I re-sign him to an expensive contract. If it's a team friendly deal and he can fit into the rotation off the bench, I would happily welcome him back.

As for Darren Collison, he is someone I would have tried to trade, but in this case I would let him walk. His career assist average is 4.8. His career high is 5.7 (as a rookie) and this year with us he's average just over four per game. Now that might not be his fault, it could very well be the system and how he has been used. However, he has not really shown that he is a true primary ball handler. I like him as an impact player off the bench, but as the primary ball handler I would not want to retain Collison. He can score when he's at his best, but his play making is pretty average.

So with that in mind, I would re-sign Ty Lawson to be our starting point guard. From being a rookie until the 2014-15 season, he improved each season and at times was a borderline all star point guard. His stats in Denver:

AST: 3.1, 4.7, 6.6, 6.9, 8.8, 9.6
PTS: 8.3, 11.7, 16.4, 16.7, 17.6, 15.2

Those stats show his assists going up each year and his scoring got better except for that last season when it dipped a little. So Lawson is a player that can distribute and score, that is an excellent combination. He might not be the long term option for this team, and if we can acquire someone in the draft that can developed into the long term starting point guard, then having Lawson around will help the team competitively. Is it hard to trust him? Perhaps, but despite going off the rails last season, this season he has managed to turn his career around. His numbers are a bit down but he's shown signs he could be regaining his form and if he can return to his Denver form then he's an upgrade on Evans and Collison. So for me as long as the price is right I would bring him back.

I shudder at the thought of Tyreke returning next season. I think the odds are near zero. That would arguably be worse than the awful Boogie trade signifying the front office has no plan but utter and unadulterated mindlessness. I actually think Tyreke will have hard time latching on with any team next year. His knees are shot. Too often he drives the lane and hoists up low percentage junk. He brings an offense to standstill with two part strategy of (1) hold the ball (2) insist on ending the possession with hero ball machinations.

If Tyreke was willing to adjust his game given his decline in athleticism he could be an effective back-up PG. If he was willing to drive and kick more often and settle only for open lanes before FGA. But Tyreke still sees himself as 20/5/5 force though his body won't cooperate with what his mind is telling him. I do credit him for improved jumper and perhaps a summer of rehab will put some pep back into his step, but the only sensible course of action is to bid the kid farewell, good luck and thanks for the memories.

I share these same sentiments. Tyreke just looks awful, I'm fine with letting him walk. Malachi, Hield, Temple all are there to take the minutes so there is no use for Reke here.

My post to like ratio is 1:1 after 1549 posts! Advanced forum analytics say I am eligible for max contract. :D

But Bricklayer just traded me to the Brooklyn Nets blog.
