Players vote: Anthony Davis 105 to 100 for DeMarcus Cousins. Media voted Davis 78 to 11 for Cousins. Game is in New Orleans.

DeMarcus Cousins weighted ranks (fans, media, players votes): 6th by fans, 4th by players, 4th by media. Weighted score 5.0

In contrast, Zaza Pachulia ranked 2nd in frontcourt fan vote, 10th among media & 12th among players.

Boogie is not meant to start the all-star game is he? can't complain about Davis though, he is having himself a year. Nice to see Giannis & Jimmy get the start. Something different for once.

Got no problem with Davis, though I think Cousins has had a better year and better record.

The interesting thing is the new system this year, which was put in place because the new internet system screwed things up with Zaza. Should probably kill the twitter voting as it's far too exploitable. I know social media, the millinials, yada yada. Guys get paid millions more for all-star games. Don't determine it the same way we determine best cat video of the year.

The player vote goes to show how much they understand and respect Boogie's game.
The media vote goes to show how little the media really understands the game and/or are voting with bias.

There's really no excuse for such disparity.

How is Westbrook not starting? !?!?!?
Fan vote still carries the most weight. Westbrook finished ahead of Curry in media and player voting but Curry won the fan vote by a wide enough margin to get the overall. I think the changes to the voting worked pretty well...some of the starting players you can nitpick...but nothing really egregious like Zaza or Kobe that will prevent a deserving player from making the team.

By the way, you excited for baseball season? Tell my pal spitter I'll be back on the Giants MLB forum next month.

Interesting. That should put to rest this narrative that players hate DMC and we don't get the top FA's because of him.

In place of whom?
Stephen Curry. Westbrook has had a much better season than Curry.

It is a nice change of pace to see the whole TNT crew agree on Cousins as a reserve; in past seasons, there would have been at least two of them arguing why he doesn't deserve it.

Curry. Westbrook is having one of the best seasons in NBA history accumulating stats that only 1 other person has.
Yeah, I should have phrased that better. I wasn't thinking of worthiness as much as I was thinking of the power of the GSW bandwagon fanbase.

The reason Westbrook isn't starting over Curry is due to fan vote.

Curry, Harden and Westbrook were all tied after the player and media votes. The fan vote broke the tie.

The all-star game has always been a popularity vote. The new changes helped, but still a couple instances still came down to name popularity among fans.

Be thankful for the changes, though, because Zaza Pachulia was #2 in fan/social media vote but dropped back once players/media vote factored in.

This is kind of a misnomer. I think that Jalen Rose put it best, on his show last night: if they were interested in making it an actual popularity vote, you'd only be allowed to vote once.

Why a misnomer? I don't care how many times someone can vote, it was always a popularity vote because quite often big name players would still get in even when injured most, if not all, of the season. How many times have you seen a non-marquee player having a tremendous season voted in as a starter? It never happens. Only the marquee names start.

It doesn't really matter whether you care or not. Whether @KingsFanSince85 cares how many times you're allowed to vote doesn't change the fact that allowing multiple votes makes it a gimmick, rather than a ture test of popularity. Multiple votes can allow for a handful of devoted fans to manipulate the voting process, e.g. Zaza Pachulia.

I do agree that it's a gimmick too. But it's still a popularity contest as well. Where name and team recognition are key. Just look at the names that got the most votes. They are the biggest names pushed by the league OR they play on the most popular teams in the league today. Hence why Zaza got so many votes as compared to years past.

I might be willing to believe that, if it weren't for one thing: Zaza Pachulia was second among frontcourt players going into the final week of voting last year, before he got to Golden State. It has crap to do with the Warriors.

This Pachulia thing is a combination of ****bois on the internet who decided, because of reasons, that it would be funny if they could make Zaza Pachulia an All-Star, and his countrymen from the Republic of Georgia, who saw this as their chance to ride the wave of internet ****ery to get their countryman into the All-Star game.

looking at the contestants for the slam dunk contest and three point shootout, talk about a lousy list. DeAndre Jordan? really? Gordon is going to dominate that competition. Klay will repeat as three point champion. Boogie in the Skills competition again, this time versus Embiid & Wall...my two favorite players :)

I think I'm gonna go outside and watch the pine needles being blown around by the storm. It'd be a helluva lot more exciting than this all-star "game"...What have they done to the game I've loved for so many years?
