Cam Payne

I think the idea is that the Kings have started to turn it around as a result of Rudy's absence.
Just because people keep saying it and believe it to be true, doesn't necessarily make it true.

For all his short comings Rudy Gay is stil 2nd best player on this team and by a BIG margin. Those assets you don't give up for speculative assets. That would be IT scenario all over again.

Payne reminds me of Isaiah Thomas, a potential taller version of Isaiah Thomas  Both are lefties, crafty, good at creating space with separation dribble, shoot from distance comfortably, have soft floater when going to hole, etc. IIRC Vlade tried to get Payne on draft day and said he was really close to a deal to do so, but fell through last minute.

Just letting Rudy walk out the door and getting nothing in return would be closer to the IT scenario.

Payne can play.....he would be the long term answer at PG. if we pulled off a deal to get him using Gay, it would soften the blow of potentially losing our pick. Rudy will be gone come Summer and I'm ok with that

Payne doesn't remind me of IT at all. Thomas is a lead guard who can be counted on to score and I don't view Payne that way at all. He's also much more of a playmaker.

Overall he's much more smooth than explosive. I'm a fan of his game but he's really a kid who is decent to good at a lot of things but not great at anything. He has a definite feel for the game though.

I think in a deal like this, we have to put emphasis on the word Kid. Your betting on his development. If you make this trade, then it becomes important to have an experienced PG on board, like a Lawson, to help mentor him. Don't think we want to immediately put all the eggs in his basket.

I would be on board with Payne for Gay but obviously the numbers don't add up and could potentially need a 3rd team to make it work.
I think when you add in other players and potentially make it a 3x3 deal, it could work out.....wondering when this will happen. It's either Gay for Payne or Brandon Knight. That's my take.
