HEAT Trade Roger Mason, Jr.
MIAMI, FL – The Miami HEAT announced today that they have traded guard Roger Mason Jr. to the Sacramento Kings in exchange for a future conditional 2015 second-round pick.

Mason Jr. appeared in 25 games (two starts) for the HEAT this season and averaged 3.0 points and 10.4 minutes while shooting 37.3 percent from the field. He was originally signed as a free agent by Miami on September 27, 2013.

SacBee (Jason Jones) says "Mason will be waived, making him a free agent."
So apparently we traded a highly protected 2nd round draft pick for cash.
Mason becomes a free agent and Miami has a roster spot open for their post-season run.

Well we get to watch the same ****ty team for another 2 months! Hooray! But oh, at least we have a team right? Unending praise and glory to the almighty Vivek and PDA, the infallible masters of basketball.

The rest of the season is going to be wasted. IT is going to hog the ball playing for a big contract. Young guys also don't magically develop simply by playing heavy minutes (if in fact Ben even gets heavy minutes) - they need to be around winning, around good veterans that can mentor them. We are still full of uncertainty going forward, we don't have a definite core group and Malone is going to spend his time essentially trying to teach Cousins and Ben McLemore how to play defense while the rest of the team waits to either walk at the end of the season or be shopped aggressively once again. Still no continuity, still no chemistry being built. To say there has been culture change is a stretch.

Coach has a challenge. However, now that the trade deadline has passed he can and should impose his will. If someone isn't playing to the team concept they can take a seat.

Worst part about this deadline is it appears we'll lose IT for nothing in a few months. Our FO sure doesn't seem all that high on him and he sure doesn't appear like he'd take a 6th man role and contract going forward. Second worst part IMO is we didn't do anything that increases the chances Rudy does not opt out and consider other options. Third is we made a move to throw Ben back into the starting lineup and play him big mins supposedly(which I don't think he's ready for) but did nothing to change the failed formula of pairing him with IT. It's spinning wheels. After all the talk from Malone/PDA about further developing Ben, being high on him and creating space for him in the offense, our PG only set him up for a total of three shots last night(4th was an off reb). I don't want Ben starting but if we're going to do this, then create a freakin role for him in our system aside from standing in the corner and watching with his thumb up his bum.

These next few months could be quite pointless. Not really playing to build anything as I assume there will be major roster turnover only 5-6 months from now and the players know that.

Ok so it appears there might still be some unreported trades? I don't know how the whole deadline thing works but alright then, I'll wait till the end of the day before taking a dump on the FO

If you like, you can get on the toilet. Doesn't sound like we made any other moves.

I like Roger Mason Jr. Looking at his Kings stats, he has no turn-overs, no fouls, and hasn't cost us any points on defense. Pretty solid contributor.
But I'm not sure about Cash Considerations. Seems like Cash has always been a little short around here, and over the last few seasons, Cash has disappeared when things got tough.

Mason Jr. does have the best DRtg in franchise history...

Given all we got for Reke in the sign and trade was Vasquez, pardon me for not being all that excited about what IT might bring back in return.
That helped us get Rudy though, but i do see your point. As long as we get SOMETHING in return i will be happy, i think Isaiah has the Monta Ellis in Golden State effect on this team right now. Better off without him even if we don't get a player with the numbers he puts up

I'm probably in the minority, but I personally don't think that "bleeding talent" in the form of letting IT walk for nothing is necessarily a bad thing. IMO sometimes it's better to just get things solidified instead of pursuing stopgap measures and whatnot. Like just so we don't let IT walk for nothing we might go out and get ourselves some mediocre player who doesn't fit and eats up minutes etc. Obviously the preferred outcome would have been to use IT as an asset to get us back a piece that we wanted for the future who fits the team, but once that didn't happen I'm more than willing to let IT just walk. I don't even want him as a 6th man because he's always going to want to be the starter.
