The Game Thread Dude
I don't see Willie as a throw in. He's a very valuable player with his new improvements(if he can keep it up).

If he can keep up this consistency, he can definitely be our C of the future. However, I think this draft is absolutely loaded at Cs. This is why I think he's expendable IF we can get a highly talented player back. Ayton, Bamba, Carter, and Jackson Jr.
Even in that case, you're better off worrying about trading Willie after our draft position has been decided and we're guaranteed to be in position to draft his replacement (even so, WCS is still just 24 and is athletic enough that he could probably slide to the PF slot next to a new rookie center/Giles/Brow when we eventually trade George Hill for him or something).

Going off of interviews and reports and all that stuff, I would probably have our players ranked like this going into the trade season.

Untouchable: Fox, Giles, Skal
Untouchable barring a lopsided offer: Bogdan, Willie, Buddy
More Touchable but not really: Mason, Jackson, Z-Bo
Shrugging meme: Malachi, Papa, Vinsanity
Thoroughly touchable: Kosta, Garrett
Touch me please: Hill

Not exactly surprising but given his improvement this season, I don't see Trill going anywhere.

Revisiting a trade idea I proposed earlier in the season. Buddy+WCS for Jaylen Brown. However, I think Budy and Willie have improved a lot, while Brown has regressed from his hot play at the beginning of the season. Maybe their own 1st round pick would make sense? Top 20 protected?

Why would the Celtics be interested in trading 2nd year player Jaylen Brown? He's made major strides for himself. 14.4pts 5.8rebs 1.3asts on 47.4/39.9/57.6. Celtics are also in good standing at 32-10. Well one reason I think they would entertain the idea is because they already have 3 starting SFs on the roster. Hayward, Tatum, and Brown. Yes they can play a lineup of Kyrie-Brown-Hayward-Tatum-Horford, but the serious problem already shows up with the lack of defensive presence in the paint. Tatum can do many things, but being a rim protector and rebounder is not one of them.

Buddy makes sense for them because he can provide instant offense whether starting or off the bench. Kyrie-Buddy would be a good scoring pair, but not sure he'd start. He's only in year 2 of his contract. Rozier and Smart are FAs at the end of the year. He could potential replace them. Not only does he fit for this year, but he also fits long-term. I could also see Brad Stevens turning him into a semi-respectable defender. WCS could be their starting C. Without the need for him to become a scoring juggernaut(Kyrie and Hayward are 20+ppg scorers), he could actually become what everyone thought he would be coming out of Kentucky. A defensive rim protector.

Outlook for the Celtics next year:
Kyrie
Hayward
Tatum
Horford
WCS

off the bench:
Smart/Rozier
Buddy

Why it makes sense for the Kings? Brown would be our franchise SF and maybe more. I think he has a higher potential than Buddy and Willie. He's also 3 years younger than both of them too. The late 1st round pick would be another plus for the Kings.
I don’t think the Celtics are trading Brown as he is their defensive stopper in their first group. This will be especially true if Smart leaves in free agency. You forget the Celtics have the Lakers pick if it’s top 5. You left off a few players like Morris and Baynes.

Realistically their line-up could be:

Horford/Ayton (draft)/Theis
Tatum/Morris/Yabusele
Hayward/Ojele/Nadar
Brown/ Smart/Bird
Irving/Rozier/Larkin.

By drafting Ayton they let Baynes go in free agency, they do a draft and stash in Europe for their pick.

Celtics drafting and scouting dept are Genius type. They would not touch any King player in a trade. They will be dominant for many years. The only thing holding them back now from multiple championship appearances is Cleveland right now. But, that could end this year. Cavs desperately need to make a move at the trade deadline. Deandre Jordan, Cousins, etc.

How about G. Hill for frye (expiring) and shumpert (po) and Clevelands 1st rounder.

For CLE it would give them a nice insurance policy for I.T and Wade and would fit in nicely imo.

For us it would clear up that salary and I think shumpert would decline his option given the amount of guards in front of him.
Cavs have tax issues right now and they have Thomas as an expiring. They need some of those expirings to help with their cap situation.

This is coming from Cavs fans I’ve talked to when proposing trades on other forums.

Alright, so I was ready to trade Hill and Weed-bo yesterday, but after this game they can go away forever for pretty much anything.

SAC gives: George Hill, Zach Randolph
NO gives: Omer Asik, Solomon Hill, Alexis Ajinca, 2019 1st

You give NO wing and big depth that they desperately need, and take back overpaid riffraff to match salaries and pry a pick from them.

Asik is a freakin' abomination, so he won't play (or at least, he better not) and he is only guaranteed a few million in his last year, you can waive Ajinca I think, and S. Hill sucks but is injured. All three of those guys are manageable to open up more minutes for the young guys.
They need SF help if they are going to move that pick. This just gives them a bit of a log jam with Holiday, Rondo, Hill, & Moore. They should potentially be looking at shedding those dead weight contracts with a 1st and bringing back someone like Batum or Barnes. Then you have a Holiday/Moore/Barnes/Davis/Cousins as their starting lineup.

I’m curious if Charlotte would do a Holiday for Batum swap as they have been looking for another solid guard who can handle and play with Walker. And then they move the other bad contracts and a 1st for Barnes. Then you have Rondo or Moore/Batum/Barnes/Davis/Cousins

How about trading George Hill to the Knicks for Tim Hardaway Jr?

Salaries are pretty close and the Knicks are trying hard to make the playoffs this year. The Knicks don't have a point guard and they have a Doug McD as a cheaper alternative at small forward.

Scott perry is their new GM and he is the one who helped the Kings sign Hill in the first place. Hardaway Jr has had his name linked to trade rumors recently, and I don't think the Knicks really wanted him for that mega contract.

Unfortunately we can not make any trades with the Knicks until a moratorium has passed, due to the Scott Perry situation. I believe it was a 1 year thing.

Not saying I would want Hardaway Jr, but the Knicks are trying to make the playoffs and PG is not their strongest position. I love Frank Ntilikina but they could use a vet like Hill if they want to make the playoffs. Frank needs time to improve and I think Hill might be better suited to mentor a player like Frank than Fox.

Perhaps, if Hill is still with us, a deal can be reached after the moratorium has passed this offseason. Like you said, Perry helped sign him ( *supposedly promising him playoffs? Lol ) and might be inclined to make something happen..

Hall of Famer
I've nothing against Tim Hardaway Jr. but what we need is a legit SF, not another 6'6" player that's really best suited for the SG position. We already have three, just over 6'6" players on the team that are playing SF in Bog's, Malachi, and Temple. Works fine until, like last night with Malachi trying to guard 6"10" Trey Lyles.

I will be surprised if there are many deals. I suspect the Kings will try to move Hill and Kosta and maybe Temple. I think moving Kosta is doable depending on what value is available out there.

I think we would love to move Hill but at that contract and the indifferent form he is in, I think that would just be a wishful thinking to get anything that is not damaging to the franchise from that deal.

Does Cleveland make sense for Hill? I think they'd rather have him than JR Smith and Shumpert.
Why?!

They have IT and rose at PG and LeBron handles and initiates a lot. JR and Shumpert fit quite well in what they require from that position. Not to mention that Kings would be taking on MORE salary after next season which is clearly what they did not want to do (hence ZB0's 2 year deal, Hill's 3rd year $1m guarantee and Carter's 1 year deal plus Kosta and Temple expiring in that timeframe)

This one is a little optimistic, and definitely more of an off-season trade than a deadline deal.

Kings Trade:
George Hill
Malachi Richardson

Kings Receive:
Luol Deng
Lonzo Ball

Why for Kings?
Move Hill for Deng...we add a year of salary but Deng would actually be a nice SF vet for us. Very expensive, but a nice vet at a position of need. Obviously, the big sweetener is Ball. Fox moves to a secondary ballhandling role, but then again, does he? Ball likes to keep the offense moving, Fox would still have the ball a fair amount. I figure the Lavar risk is worth it for us. If he becomes too big of a problem we could just trade Lonzo, or even cut him...who cares? In this scenario we only invested Hill and Richardson, not our #2 pick.

Lakers Trade:
Luol Deng
Lonzo Ball

George Hill
Malachi Richardson

This is predicated on signing Lebron. I’ll be stunned if Lebron would keep Lonzo on the squad—too big of a distraction and takes attention away from the Lebron narrative. I’ll be equally stunned if the best they can get for Lonzo is George Hill, but this trade does get them out of the Deng contract—cuts it by one year—for a player that fits perfectly next to Lebron. Malachi is a big, young swing man who can shoot—another great fit next to Lebron, alhough essentially a placeholder here. Maybe they want Skal instead, who knows? Anyway, not fantastic value for Ball, but the Deng contract is a real clunker and I am very curious as to what Ball’s actual market is around the league right now.

Come on....you really think Magic is going to trade the #2 pick in the draft for a some middle of the road combo guard and a 2nd year player who struggles to get PT on one of the worse teams in the league?? Lebron or not, LA would be rioting if a trade like this happened.

3 team deal between Sac/Phx/Min

Sac trades Hill and receives OKC's 1st rounder and B. Knight

Minnesota trades Teague and receives Hill

Phoenix trades Knight and receives Teague

Don't see Phoenix doing it. Teague is older and more expensive than Knight. They're trying to rebuild right now. With Booker's improved ball handling, I think we'll see him and Knight fit nicely in the backcourt whenever he gets healthy.

Kings would need to include way more than that. I doubt they'd give us Tyler Johnson alone for Hill and Carter. They also don't need Hill. They already have Dragic who is better.

Not to mention OKC already owes this years pick (1-14 protected) to MIN. They won't be able to trade another pick until the 2020 draft since picks can not be dealt in consecutive drafts.

Johnson’s contract is an albatross that goes up quite a bit. This trade saves the Heat $28.13M next year and $36.34M in 19/20. The Heat are looking to unload salary. The real question is are a 28 year old Whiteside and potential with Justice worth it to take on that much salary.

Johnson is 25 years old and having a pretty good season, the Heat are competing for the playoffs. They are currently 4th in the east. Johnson make 6 million this year 19 million next year and 19 million the year after. Heat would be saving one year by taking Hills contract instead of Johnson, but Johnson is a better player never mind the fact that the Heat would be giving up their franchise center as well as a 21 year old Winslow on a rookie deal.

I think you and I see Hill's trade value differently

Pat Riley is on the floor keeled over in laughter. Johnson is their future at PG and having a good season. Whiteside is literally first team defense. Winslow, I can see them moving.

Heat are playing Great. Ranked, 4th in the East and 1 game behind Cleveland(Who's getting hammered by Toronto) Heat will be the 3rd best team in the East by the end of the season.
Spolstra is a great coach and will be in consideration for COY.

Vince and Hill don't move the needle one iota for the Heat. Well Coached and First Class Front office and organization.

Miami is looking to dump contracts so they can make a run at some top free agents.

I agree they may look to make moves just don't think the value is there for your trade idea.
Perhaps but the value isn’t in who they are getting from the Kings. The value is what can they do with the money they free up. Miami is paying too much for a lot of middle of the road guys.

For example next year they will pay:
Whiteside. 24.4, 27.1. Per 25.1 but injured
TJ. 19.2, 19.2. Per 13.1
Dragic. 18.1, 19.2. Per. 16.2
J Johnson 14.2, 15.1. Per 15.5
Waiters. 12.7, 13.3. Per 11.0
Olynyk. 11.1, 11.6. Per 15.6
Richardson 9.3, 10.2. Per 12.2

When you look at their Roster they have Bam whom they like and too many centers. TJ is way too expensive for two years of 19M per. Not many teams can absorb $43.2M and $46.3M in salary over the next two years. If you add the what they lose from Bosh the year after next it would set them up for a big free agent run in 2019-2020.

They aren't giving Whiteside and Winslow to unload Tyler Johnson's contract. Not sure if you are aware of this, but Whiteside is their franchise player. Last year he put up 17pts 11rebs 2blks a game. This year, his numbers aren't as big because he's slowly coming back from injury.

That's like the Kings giving up the equivalent of WCS, Bogdanovic, and Skal to unload George Hill's contract. There's no way Miami does any type of trade like this.

I'm also willing to bet there's 1 team out there willing to take on Tyler Johnson's contract for an expiring player because he is a good player, and he's only 25 yearsold. They don't need to get rid of their franchise player and Winslow for him.

I get your point on Whiteside, but they have a lot of money in centers including a promising young rookie. And we disagree anyone will take on TJ’s contract for an expiring player ( btw I’m a Fresno fan so if anything I’m biased otherwise).

Not surprising but still nice to hear is that the Pistons are willing to include Stanley Johnson in trade talks.

http://www.espn.com/blog/nba/post/_...teams-about-a-potential-stanley-johnson-trade

Again, Kings should buy low here. Johnson has obviously not developed the way one would hoped but of course, that is the reason why he is available at all. He is 21 years old, my pre-draft notes still hold weight and he fills a massive need for the Kings as a 3/4.

How about a Stanley Johnson for Garrett temple swap?

I think temple is a veteran player Stan van gundy would covet.
