[Game] Kings v. Grizzlies - Sunday, Dec. 31 - 4 PT

For once, Can the Kings luck out and have something nice? It would be great if Giles turned out to be special. I am certainly not counting on it. But, the Kings are long overdue for a break and too finally land a star.

The crazy thing is the Kings D will probably tighten up the next 2 against the Hornets and Nugs(par for the course). Then, the Kings will get frustrated again when they play the Spurs. Return and Resort back to their lax defensive mentality. This team is mentally weak and fragile. It they can't play consistent defense every single night. The Kings don't have enough talent on the offensive end to match up against most teams. If they commit to playing D, then more wins will come.

You mean unintended side-effect..... During the earlier part of the year offense seemed to be the big problem, and lately its been defense more. Team shows flashes but is getting dangerously complacent in how its losing. Clippers were an awful loss and then followed by the Grizzlies....Kings are hardly in the game for most of the duration. I dont mind tanking, but not too early in the season. Havent even looked at the current draft-class yet for this 2018 draft.
And you know its bleak when the draft is primarily what you're looking forward to.....
Not everyone is primarily looking forward to the draft. I'm looking forward to the rest of the season and to see the further development of OUR YOUNG KINGS.

When I think about what could have been with him and Bogdan... oh man. But maybe his strong passing game is best suited with a cutter/finisher like WCS.
Anyways, confidence is contagious. I think thats why Skal has a short leash. I noticed Joerger takes him out when confidence is low, just like the second quarter against the Suns. Not too worried about this blow out cuz we couldnt hit anything and they hit everything. I think we should give Papa, Giles, Fox, Skal HUGE minutes the last 15 games tho, even if it rattles the heck out of them.

More than one even. Never mind the draft misses, if we'd just kept the players we did draft and stuck with Coach Malone we'd be a lock for the playoffs and probably home court advantage in the first two rounds this year. This whole situation would be a lot easier to take if it was simply bad luck. The only bad luck involved really is that we've been saddled with the worst kind of leadership and there's nothing we can do about that as fans but hope things get better.

The good news is we will have other stars and there will be plenty of reasons to watch in the future. This is another rough patch for the Kings but just watching college basketball this season you can't help but be overwhelmed by the quality of talent coming up. Trae Young, DeAndre Ayton, Marvin Bagley, Collin Sexton... these kids are all having historic Freshman seasons. Not to mention Luka Doncic looking like potentially the best International prospect ever. Just look at the 49ers this season for an example of how quickly a team can turn it around. They were a complete joke -- just terrible on every level -- then they make one trade and future Hall of Famer Jimmy G has got them thinking Super Bowl as early as next season. I don't know what form hope will arrive in when it comes, but when it does all those mistakes will be a lot easier to accept then they are now. I haven't been getting involved in the discussions much this season because I haven't been watching the games so I don't really have anything of value to add but it'd be great if we didn't all hate each other by the time the team is winning again. Wherever you stand on the optimist/pessimist and pro-tank/anti-tank spectrum it's important to remember that none of us is responsible for this debacle, we're just fans with opinions and we all want a team worth cheering for. It will come, eventually. :D

I find this Tyreke stuff pretty ridiculous. Has he been an All Star? No. He's been an up and down limited player for what? - Nine years? He now has a nice outside shot, seems like he knows the game pretty well, and he's playing for a losing team. The Kings gave him a fair offer and he went elsewhere for 500K extra or so. He's been with four teams, had numerous ankle/leg issues and now, I repeat - now - is healthy. Don't check the injury report - something may have happened. We talk a lot about having patience with the youngins for three or four years. But NINE years? C'mon.

some players simply take longer to come into their own than others, doesn't make it a bad thing but a situational situation IMO. We don't see a player all of a sudden get better simply by staying put with one franchise for 7+ seasons and then getting even better from there.

I can't believe you are crowning Jimmy as a HOF based on a six game sample with the 49ers. Bit premature no?

What? He was a restricted free agent. Sacramento never even made an offer for him. He signed an offer sheet for 4 years and $44 million from New Orleans that we could have matched but opted to work out a sign and trade instead. This is after he was pushed out to the SF position and asked to play off the ball. I'm not saying he's a franchise savior or anything, but he's a solid player who we basically pushed out the door instead of investing in his development. Contrast that with Steph Curry who had similar injury issues during his rookie contract. Golden State invested a ton of money in cutting edge medical research and found out what was broken with his ankles and got it fixed. Then they traded fan favorite Monta Ellis and let Curry run the offense. Obviously Tyreke's career never took off the way most expected after his stellar rookie year but I'm not the kind of person who thinks there's only one true outcome to every situation. Maybe Tyreke was always going to be a disappointment but we'll never know what would have happened with a stable coaching situation and a team that was willing to invest in him as a star player because that's not what happened. Do you realize that every stop he's been to in the NBA has changed coaches within 2 years? 2 years of Westphal then 2 years of Keith Smart in Sacramento. 2 years of Monty Williams then 2 years of Alvin Gentry in New Orleans. Joerger in Sacramento for a month and a half then Fizdale (for a couple weeks) and now Bickerstaff in Memphis. It's kind of hard for any player to find consistency when the guy making the rotations and designing the offense keeps changing like that.

how can you tell with no emoji?
It wasn't sarcasm exactly though I was being facetious. It's obviously too soon to say, but the way he's played this season has been so good and the team was so bad before he got there that I think a bit of playful hyperbole is warranted.

Consider the context: 12 months ago we were looking at a team that fell from Super Bowl contender to last place in a little over a year because the owner and GM picked a fight with the head coach and ousted him and then the team quit on them (sounds familiar, no?) Earlier this year we were looking at a 3-5 year minimum rebuild with a 21 year old QB at the helm who may or may not amount to anything at the end of which maybe 3 players from this current roster are still on the team. It was even bleaker than the Kings are this year because you only need 3-5 players to transform an NBA team while you need 10-15 to transform an NFL team. Suddenly it looks like the Niners are only 4 or 5 solid players away from being a contender again and that's mostly because of Garappolo making the same players who sucked for 10 weeks look like solid starters or potentially even stars. Yeah there was also Reuben Foster getting healthy, Eric Reid playing the best football of his career, and rookie defensive backs Adrian Colbert and Akhello Witherspoon stepping up with starters roles. But offensively the transformation was night and day. So I'll go ahead and slang that hyperbole around for Jimmy G because he made me believe again and the situation had gotten so bad over there that I wouldn't have thought it was even possible for 1 player to have that kind of an impact. That's what hope does for you!

It was reported that Sacto did make an offer for him, below that of NO. (I think it was for 500K or possibly $1 million below the NO offer, and then Sacto didn't match the higher offer). So Sacto ended up with nothing after his development for a few years. Not a good ending, I agree, but losing Tyreke for nothing hasn't been the worst of it. Look at IT, a better player than Tyreke, and an All Star. Again, no compensation for his leaving. THAT was the travesty. He went on to be an All Star player. And even with Cousins - relatively little for his leaving. It would be nice if one of these years the Kings could, if possible, get something for an asset. Hopefully, Divac learned something from his Cousins' trade experience and we'll see some return on Kings' assets in the future.

Letting Tyreke and IT walk for nothing was on that stupid a$@ gerbil PDA's watch.

PDA single handedly set this franchise back 10 years in the short time he was here!

As soon as PDA and Mullin drafted McLemore, Tyreke’s ticket out of town was stamped. He wanted to stay but dumb and dumber had other plans and had no intentions of signing him to what was a reasonable deal.

Malone would have had a much better idea what to do with Tyreke than Smart ever did.
