Vet free agents and filling out the roster

It is beginning to look like the free agents will clearly make more of an impact than the rookies.
Hill is an important addition and can mentor Fox.
Zach and even an aging Carter are bringing the experience that the Kings can really use.

Damn.. Kentavious Caldwell-Pope to the Lakers on a 1 year $18MM rental..

I have a bad feeling about that.. Seems like Detroit made a terrible move and the Lakers stepped right in.

Lets hope Buddy's that dude.

Liked hearing from the vets today at the presser. George Hill's statement about minutes was pretty crazy. If that is really how he feels about his playing time and mentoring a rookie he is the perfect guy to be here.
He also mentioned that the front office's goal was about winning, not tanking and that drew him to Sac as well, even though he knows it'll be a bumpy road ahead.

Not advocating anything, just asking: Cap-wise, are the Kings in a position to be part of the proposed 4-team Melo deal?
They still have around $7M in cap space if Spotrac is up to date (it appears they are only missing Frank Mason) so they could absorb some salary, the problem is that they don't have any roster spots to take someone on. I'm not sure how they could help unless they see a potential roster upgrade. The only guy I see them parting with is Kosta and I wouldn't want to part with KK yet as he's a good player on a good contract and I don't think PagaG is quite ready for big minutes yet. I also like having Kosta around as steadying influence both on and off the court.

My first reaction was KCP was a good signing for Lakers. I recalled him lighting up the Kings last year then I noticed he had a 52% TS which is tick better than his career TS % of 51%. Bad! For context Ben McLemore is 53% TS for his career and 54% TS last year. To his credit KCP has better than 2:1 assist to turnover (3.9 to 1.7) while Ben can't scratch a 1:1. KCP is the better defender but given his scoring inefficiency he was never going to land a max contract and the Pistons and Nets were right to balk at his demands. The Pistons ended up with the better guard in Avery Bradley so I don't it as a terrible move at all.

I really thought Ben was going to end up better than KCP. Ben was surprisingly solid this season from a numbers perspective. 8pts 2rebs on 43% FG and 38.2% 3pt. KCP had poor splits at 39.9% FG and 35% 3pt. I still hope Ben can get his stuff together in Memphis. Although Memphis fans have been convinced by Kings fans that he's not a basketball player. They're buffing up some weird rivalry between 2 Jayhawks in Ben and Selden Jr. Even with that being said, I don't know how you could complain about Ben on a 2 year $10million deal. I don't think anyone here would care about that contract if we didn't have our longjam at SG.

I actually think KCP next to Lonzo will benefit himself a lot. He just needs to heavily bet on his 3pt shot improving.

Yeah, I wish Ben all the best, and fortunately for him, what the fans think doesn't matter. It's what the coach thinks that matters. I think KCP was a nice pick up for the Lakers and he will help them. But they're not going to make the playoffs despite what the Laker fans might think. So glad I don't have to sit in an arena full of Laker fans again. At least until next year's summer league.
