Buddy Hield

He is fun to watch. We have a number of young guys that I really enjoy watching including Skal, WCS and Richardson in addition to Buddy. Add to that list a couple of draft picks from this summer and Bogdanovic and we will have a bunch of young players with potential. I have no idea how it will turn-out, but I will enjoy watching it unfold.

I didn't watch him in New Orleans at all but one thing I've noticed since he arrived is he isn't shy as it pertains to taking shots, if he is open, he will let it go and rightfully so...he is a shooter, got to keep shooting unless the shot isn't dropping then it's time to attack the basket. Honestly, I don't think he will be a player that will be on the free throw line too much. I like his positive attitude and he needs to put in lots of work in the off season on his ball handling and hope with time he isn't a cone on defense.

I would've loved to have him in the draft.

It looks like his shooting is legit, so he will always have a rotation spot in this league.
Although he's older, combine one elite skill with just a little development, and he's a solid starting 2.

Yeah, impossible not to like the guy... Probably why I've convinced myself he's a young James Harden. I'll be happy enough with CJ McCollum though.
James Harden is longer and more explosive than Buddy. Harden rarely uses his hops in the pros like he did at ASU but he is a guy that can go hard to rim and throw down. Buddy doesn't have length and power to his game. Buddy is better shooter at relative stage of their career. Harden has far better handles (dribbling / passing). I thought both could be stars in college once they made to pros. I don't think Buddy can be as good as Harden but if 70-80% that would be near All-Star.

Your post is the same post I've been looking to post (somewhere around here). Guess I don't have to now. Well said. I would add that Temple, while not part of our youth movement, is the veteran presence that will teach the youngsters what they need to know. And Papa, while I don't have high hopes for him, will be a pleasant surprise if he develops. Now we just need 2-3 of the youngsters or lottery picks to develop into all-star level players.

To me he looks like a hybrid of JJ Reddick and CJ McCollum. He's a pure shooter like Reddick but is better off the dribble(but needs to improve a lot there to get to McCollum level). He is a better pure shooter than McCollum though. If Buddys feet are set and he is open its practically a layup for him, and thats as a rookie, will only get better.

What strikes you about Buddy is that when the ball leaves his finger tips it's with so little effort that you wonder how the ball is swishing through the net in the next second. His touch is incredibly soft. The second thing you see is how creative he is for a rookie 2-guard, which bodes very well for his future growth as an NBA player. Such creativity is a God-given talent; you either have it or you don't. (See guys like Afflalo, McLemore, and Collison for the examples of those who don't). In addition, I've been impressed in the short while he's been with the Kings in his improved ball handling, which we all know has been a weakness. I can easily see how in a year or so that's not going to be an issue. He's also starting to see the floor better. All in all, I see a guy who probably is going to be a consistent 20 point per game scorer in this league within a couple of years.

Buddy wasn't a particularly good three point shooter when he got to college, but he worked hard and by his senior year he had turned himself into one. That tells you two things. One, that he has the ability, and two, he's willing to put in the work to develop that ability. Fifty percent of how good a player can be is between his ears, and that's the grey area in scouting a player. So you like it when you see a player making progress on a regular basis. Are you listening Donte Greene? Much easier to judge a senior than it is a freshman.

Lest anyone forget, Cousins is an entirely different player today than the player that couldn't run up and down the court more than twice before needing a blow when he got here. Dramatic difference between then and now, which is why you can't pass judgement on a first year player. The other side of the coin is JT, who improved over his years here, but not enough. He certainly put in the work, but something was missing, and I'll leave it at that. Anyway, Buddy is off to a good start, and hopefully what were seeing is just the tip of the iceberg.

While his turnovers have been worrisome, they weren't a big deal when he was in N.O. I think he only averaged .9 or so a game there.

All Buddy needs to do is tighten his handle a little bit and learn how to properly pass out of the PnR and he will be a damn good player. He hesitated and never made the pass on a few PnR's last night. Could have had himself a 10 assist game. Once he gets that down, he's going to be dangerous.

Buddt is better then I expected him to be he is a legit player.

Skal also had 1 take to the basket today. 3 dribbles and scored with a running jump half hook. With his touch and elevation that attack dribble to the basket is an area I really want him to improve this off season. Combine that with a good pump fake and his perimeter shooting and we got something.

My fingers are crossed we need those 2 to reach their potential.

I have no doubt in my mind he will improve in those areas in time.. Its nice to see the high assist #'s lately..

In march he's shooting 50 % FG and 48% from 3 (2.7 a game) which is ridiculous..He definitely dosen't look like a rookie to me.. which is why the age thing dosen't bug me too much. That turnaround fade-away shot is just silky smooth!

Considering what @bajaden said about Buddy's willingness to put in hard work to improve AND considering what we've seen from this current Kings coaching staff with regard to developing all the young players, you'd have to feel pretty good about his future development?

I'm excited to see what kind of player he becomes over the next 2 - 3 seasons. I believe we'll see some significant improvement next season.

I dont see how he isnt the starter. He looks to me to be a very good player. He gets his shot off just about whenever he wants. He knows how to create space for himself. He is almost always in the right spot. His release on his shot is very quick.
He plays with a lot of confidence.

Obviously we hope for the best when it comes buddy. I just feel his skill set would be more helpful to winning basketball if he can drop close to 20 off the bench.

Buddy obviously has a lot of potential but I'm getting REALLY annoyed at Grant and Jerry talking about him like he's already a star. Sounds too much like they have orders to hype him despite how he actually plays so the Cousins trade won't look so embarrassing.
You think they get "orders" to hype Buddy to cover up the embarrassment of the trade? I think they are capable of hyping any player who makes two shots in a row - all on their own. Their love affair with the Greek Freak was a "freaking embarrassment," to borrow a phrase from Grant.
