It appears a lot of us have simply lost interest or passion in football this year. Ratings are down and attendance is down. The 49ers game was on my TV, but I switched over to the Packers game as soon as I could. At least with the Colts-Packers, I have a couple of fantasy players in which I can feign interest.

TV ratings are down as a whole this season in the NFL, not anything significant, but still down compared to previous seasons. Something has got to give. Must be the pass heavy league that it's becoming and rule changes.

I've spoken with several folks who just aren't watching this year because of the "politics" that people like Kap are bringing into the sport. And this isn't an opening to start waxing poetic on whether what he is doing is "right" or "wrong". Just a realization that lots of folks watch sports for entertainment and when some people try to disrupt that the TVs turn off. Frankly, I don't care for it either. But I also am watching less because my 49ers suck *** this year and I have better things to do than watch poor play and a quarterback who would rather focus on social issues than his team's play.

Agree with everything you said. This is the first year I've completely tuned out the Niners/NFL.

I think the politics thing is probably a red herring. I've been less interested because the 49ers suck, but I've still been watching almost all the games. The kneeling thing isn't mentioned more than once for a few moments per game. Sure, people who aren't happy about it might be turned off to the whole idea of football, but I suspect that there are other larger reasons (like the team sucking).

I think the bigger thing is just that it was inevitable that ratings stop rising at some point with all the other entertainment options available.

I don't think so. I've talked to a number of fans who are turning out for exactly that reason. I don't want to get into it any further, however, as it's dancing very close to our long-standing ban on discussing politics.

Agreed on the red herring thing. I've heard the same, including from my brother-in-law who is a huge football fan. I'm a Niners fan and don't watch other games much at all, and I'm not bothering to catch the Niners right now. He used to watch a lot. Not this year, after all that's gone on.

So the 49ers pick today to actually look like a football team? Luckily, it's just the first quarter and I have every belief they'll screw it up before much longer.

I'd like to bid adieu to Trent Baalke and Chip Kelly. My trifecta of joy will be complete when Colin Kaepernick follows them out the door.

Never really understood the hype and love for CK, I always thought he was a highly overrated player. Even during their Super Bowl appearance, he really wasn't all that impressive...
Never really understood all the hype when it came to Chip Kelly either.
I don't know much about Baalke to pass similar judgment so I will just let it be.
I hope the Niners can turn it around and become relevant. Not so much for me. But more so for their fan base.
While I hope, I will enjoy watching my team hopefully make a Super Bowl run

Well, that was rude. Al Michaels just threw shade on the Sacramento Kings during the Seattle-Detroit game. "The Sacramento Kings haven't won a championship since 1951, and that includes their time in Rochester, Cincinnati, Kansas City and Sacramento. They had to keep leaving town..."

Yeah, I tried telling people years ago that this dude stunk as a QB...it's a shame it took his anthem antics for folks to finally jump on the anti-Kap bandwagon. He was a gimmick QB that Harbaugh protected and he had an all time stacked defense to carry him. The league adjusted after about a year to year and a half and he failed spectacularly when he was asked to lead the team. Still cannot read a defense or make an accurate throw downfield. Hilarious that he basically became a check down QB this year when all his little fanbois used to crap on Alex Smith for doing the same.

I haven't paid a whole lot of attention to the NFL this year because the Niners were so disgusting...but I did check on Gore and Smith to see how they were doing. KC is still alive, so I think I'll root for them...a KC/GB Super Bowl would be kind of neat with the Smith/Rodgers angle. Just as long as neither the Seahags or Cowboys win it this year, ugh:confused:.

It's all set...Falcons vs Patriots SB LI!

I was impressed with both teams today. The Falcons offense is just rolling, they have so many weapons and Ryan is playing lights out. Their defense also did an admirable job against Rodgers.

On the other hand, the Patriots are the Patriots and Brady is Brady. If you give the Hoodie a couple weeks to prepare he usually finds a way.

My early prediction Atlanta 34 Patriots 30

I'll be honest. I'm having a lot of trouble garnering any enthusiasm for Super Bowl LI.
Worst championship round in history of NFL many are saying with the two blowouts. Worst season overall according to many, mediocre at best TV ratings, sputtering attendance, Kaep fiasco, San Diego fiasco, Oakland in limbo, ongoing concussion controversy and assorted other downers. I can't believe Roger Goodell still has a job, laughing all the way to the bank $35M annual salary - more than any NFL player.

The only thing that would salvage this season is Atlanta winning their first Superbowl in franchise history, it's a feel good story and shows that the NFL isn't all about New England, Pittsburgh, Denver & Green Bay championships...even though this is the Patriots sixth appearance under Belichik
