This morning listening to the Dave interview Sam Amick, my son asks "Daddy, why is Carmichael Dave so famous?" After a good laugh, I had to explain that he's Sacramento famous, and that doesn't really count. Sorry Dave. :)
He's now known as 'the Dave'? Lol, I have been wanting to hear his on air chemistry with the lovely Kayte and damn if was not disappointed this morning! Kayte is awesome. I downloaded tune in radio to my phone just so I could listen longer today than just the commute time. And Sammy A never disappoints.

Been thinking LONG and hard about this.

And I gotta tell you-

You're RIGHT.

Sometimes when you're trying to be funny on the fly, things can go great, and they can thud. I don't have issues offending people, never have. But I'm not mean.

I was so pissed at Windhorst that I wanted to be mean back at him, but in the end, I may have dragged other people's sensitivities into it.

Everyone makes mistakes. Lord knows I'll make many, MANY more. I apologize. Mea culpa.
And for you Mr. The Dave. It's super awesome to have a 'local celebrity personality' that maintains a direct line with the sports community. I think that's half of what makes you a great personality, the other half being the self deprecating local diehard yahoo with a platform to reach and the knowledge to preach. I think I speak for the vast majority when I say one of the best moves KHTK made in recent memory was bringing your goofy self back to the community on the waves. Props. I thought the clowning of Windhorst was funny, personally. Hate that guy. He never played basketball. Probably can't even dribble one, much less shoot it. Don't know what gives him the right to even talk about the game. Maybe if he played he wouldn't be so Roly poly.

"Gives him the right"? So, you're one of those "you didn't play, so you can't talk about it" meatheads I hate, like Mike Golic?
I've never played really competitive basketball (being barely 5'2" makes that fairly obvious). So does that mean I can't talk about it either?

That's The Dave to you.

Get it right and genuflect.

'Really competitive' means you played at some level. Right? I maintain, if you have never played the sport, you can never legitimately claim to be an expert.

Haven't you heard Vivek coached his kid to the championship. Lol. But honestly I would disagree with your opinion.

Journalists aren't required to meet anybody's arbitrary standard of "expertise" in the subject they cover, and they're not even promoted as experts in the first place. What the hell kind of straw man is that?

I don't believe anyone but you has used the term "expert"...

I defer to those who have played professional sports (such as bajaden) when the discussion is about player expereince, etc., but I absolutely refuse to accept the idea that simply because one has played the sport one is better suited in general to discuss it or write about it.

I think former players can contribute good insight from a player's perspective, and coaches on coaching/strategy, (what a player/coach did, and why) but that experience also tends to color our opinions. I think being a fan certainly entitles you to an opinion, and just because you haven't played professionally doesn't mean you can't provide insight, it just means your perspective is coming from a different place. Some of the better journalists I know have a minimal sports background.

I'd sure like to be a billionaire, though, to be able to give an owner's perspective. ;)

They try to pass themselves off as experts hence the attitude of 'their opinion should be taken seriously'. And if I am going to take your 'opinion' seriously, you better back it up with some substance. Otherwise you are just some talking head. I don't care if you played basketball in junior high, you better have seen some court time before you act like you know something about the game and the people who play it, especially when we are talking about a parent playing the game.

Correct - Kayte is just filling in while the other two are on vacation - vacations that were apparently planned prior to the shakeup a couple weeks ago.

I swear CD took a hilarious shot at Keith Brooks this morning. Was talking about the worst type of fans, those that (I am paraphrasing) wear their Miami Heat flat billed hat along with their Celtic jersey, etc etc and not only are they the worst type of fan but terrible people.

Stopped listening a long time ago but tuned in this morning to hear CDs take on whats been going on. Took me about 5 minutes to switch stations as CD and the crew were actually saying it would be forgivable to trade Cousins to Lakers, bringing up improbable things like he could become injury prone or that number 2 pick could be better than Boogie. Just garbage radio, for the few moments that I tuned in for anyway.

I pretty much disagree with that. Don't get me wrong, I'm not ever going to be down with anything that helps the gd lakers but, in the aggregate, I find the DDM show to be the least objectionable alternative in morning sports talk.

Well, actually, that's not true. I like Tony Kornheiser's show more, but I've made the conscious choice to podcast that show, rather than listen in real time.
